At war with Hollywood
The entertainment industry in America is made up by different forms one of it being the film industry. For many years, the entertainment industry has been used for watching movies, video games and social media (Haupert, 2012). In modernity, the federal government has implimneted regulations to control the explosion. The first regulation was placed on the radio industry to prevent monopolies and newspaper in radio station. In the current political government, the film and video industry have raised up the need for regulation since there have been a high level of violence in the entertainment industry. Currently, ‘The Film Picture Association of America’ (MPAA) has confirmed that the film industry has flourished in American entertainment and researchers have confirmed that many family films are produced and a large number of films are based on violent acts (Haupert, 2012). In addition, the PG-13 films are releasing gun violence films which have exposed young adults to aggressive behaviors. The MPAA has implemented way of curbing the production of these movies such as universal rating system but it is non-functional (Haupert, 2012).
In my opinion, I feel that the American entertainment should not ever control the music entertainment because for many issues it has tried to control but no achievement due to lack of self-regulation. Note that the government has the role to regulate, but the role should be limited since the America law does not allow full regulation of private life. The government should maintain its power in that it should not disturb the media but rather it should give it the right to inform the public the reality (Haupert, 2012). In addition, it should not control the media in order to give people the human right of expressing their opinion. According to MPAA, family should have a direct responsibility and control over the American entertainment. This is because, parents cannot allow their children to watch unsuitable movies and so it is their responsibility to regulate and teach their children on the way to follow. The point is that people should have self-regulation in American entertainment but not the federal government (Haupert, 2012).
Government is justifiable to control the media as a result of ongoing war. For many years, the film industry has contributed to American war as it is argued that the media understands the root cause of the war, the battle field as well as the nature of the rivalries (Towers-Romero, 2009). Focusing on history, it is clear that the government should control the media, in that for instance the movie ‘Fly Away Home’ shows idealistic Navy pilot and the Vietnamese family in South Vietnam and it portrays the idealistic naivety. In addition, the Hollywood has led to conservatism in America, for example the ‘uncommon valor’ film shows that the American communists will not achieve victory (Towers-Romero, 2009). Due to the ongoing war, the government has the responsibility to control war in order to maintain the national security. Media is important as it communicates to people about the ongoing issues but it is also harmful to people lives as it gives rise to criminal issues. It is clear that the social media show subjects of war and the government should control and set regulating measures to ensure that the media is not the root cause of the war. Following that the government should control the media; the Hollywood films should stop portraying America in a negative way. It is evident that Hollywood film portrays America particularly minorities negatively where many people tend to think that the way people are portrayed is a reality. Films disseminate information to the whole world and so media should be careful when distributing information (Towers-Romero, 2009).
