During this time, there were rapid changes in weather conditions where by one day, there would be soft airs experienced along the valley together with vigorating sun whereas on the next day, short blasts from the north would be experienced across the lake. The snow would finally disappear and green wheat fields observed from each direction. Ploughs would be taking place all over by the help of useful implements. The lake was seen without beauty of ice but instead hard a dark covering on its waters. There was also clearing of many acres that occurred at an early day as a result of inclined plane falling from the ascent of the mountain

Carleton Watkins

This documented America’s physical resources especially from the western regions in the early 1860-1890. He also photographed other sites such as San Francisco, the Arizona, Mt. Shasta and portions of Nevada. He produced large images of Yosemite starting in 1861. By 1864, the national park system was established due to the recognition of these photos and later inspired other photographers who came up later on.

Thomas Cole

He arrived in Ohio in the nineteenth century and lived in the period of gathering industrialism and when slavery was creating division in the nation. This artist was a famous associate of Hudson River School of painters and they took subject frontier associated James Fenimore. They also produced Schroon Lake.

John Muir

Muir migrated to the United States in 1849. He founded Sierra club and wrote many books and articles about preserving nature including a number of articles that contributed to the creation of Yosemite National Park. He produced the mountains of California and our National Parks.
