Origin story

I would describe myself as someone who possesses a variety of skills, has a lot of integrity and is willing to do what it takes to ensure that the goals I have set to accomplish are achieved. As a student, it is important to remain self driven and motivated to ensure that the college experience is not only educational but also that it equips one with the skills and knowledge they need to face life outside school. Since school is a place where different people, students and lecturers, interact, I leant that in order to make the most of it, it was important to build good relations with those I interact with either direct or indirectly.

            With my experience as a college student, I have learnt how to be a leader and how to use every opportunity I get to not only empower those I work with but also motivate them when working as a team. The school environment gave me the opportunity to interact and connect with people from different backgrounds. Despite the challenges I experienced as a student, they helped me to become at managing time. Some of the major challenges that I experienced include managing my time and accomplishing all my tasks within the available time so as to meet deadlines. Due to this experience, I have good time management and organizational skills which came with years of practice. I am also good at multitasking and can handle different projects effectively in accordance to the stipulated guidelines. I always ensure that I pay attention to details when conducting my work and ensure that it is accomplished satisfactorily and in accordance to what is expected of me, if not better.

            One of the few things that I find challenging has to do with delegating duties to other people when working as a team. Since I tend to be rather hands on, there have been occurrences where I failed to properly assign duties evenly between members I worked with in my team and ended up with a larger workload than I could handle. Though this may have been a significant challenge in the past, I took measures to ensure that overcome it. I applied for courses in effective delegation techniques which have helped me a lot. I am now more comfortable assigning duties evenly and even though I still take part in various activities of a project, I always ensure that I only take up duties that I can accomplish in the given time frame.

            I feel that the experiences that I faced as a student are similar to the ones I will face in the world outside schools. Conflicts that ensued between my professors and I or those with my colleagues are the same as those that are bound to come up between my employer and I and also with fellow employees. To resolve them, it is my belief that the best approach to take is one that involves effective communication. Through it, parties involved will be able to air their grievances and come up with solutions that suit everyone. This method of conflict resolution is something I employ on a regular basis as it ensures that everyone walks away feeling that their needs were taken into consideration when implementing the solution for the problem that was being addressed. I believe that the skills and experiences that I have gathered not only in school but in my daily activities will be of great use when properly implemented in a working environment and I believe they will play a big role in promoting my career.
