Maxine Hong Kingston has definite ideas about what an "American Hero" or "Heroine" may or may not be, as well as ideas about what does and what does not constitute heroic actions.  Write an essay that describes what you consider the author's ideals of heroic qualities to be.  What characters, male and female, have we encountered in her writing that exemplify these "Heroic" qualities?  Do you agree or disagree with the author's observations and opinions and, if so, why or not?  Be sure to give specific examples from the text to support you observations.
