Reflect on the American Dream theme in light of one of the following subsets
of the usual understanding of the dream: sense of place, rugged individualism. The
first, a sense of place, describes the idea that personal achievement and contentedness
can be tied to personal choices about where to live and why to live there. The second,
rugged individualism, describes the idea that not only physical but psychological,
emotional, and intellectual toughness are required for a person to be self-reliant
while achieving his/her goals in life. Tell a story here, either personal or from
observation, to prove your point. You should include references to one or more of the
Week 1 readings and lectures.
