Topics and Questions We Can Help You To Answer:
Paper Instructions:
Write a five-paragraph argumentative essay that compares and contrasts two speeches by Elie Wiesel and Susan B. Anthony.
First, read through the resources “Thesis Statements,” “Body Paragraphs” and “Conclusions” to learn how to construct your essay.
Then, read or watch both speeches several times. You may want to take notes on the most important points of each speech as you read.
Next, analyze each speech by considering the following: What are the themes or topics of each speech? How are the speeches similar? How are the speeches different?
Then, organize your essay.
Begin your essay with a paragraph that introduces what you plan to show in your essay and includes a thesis statement. Be sure that your thesis statement presents a debatable argument rather than simply restating facts about your chosen texts.
Use the second, third and fourth paragraphs to explain the similarities and differences between the speeches. Use specific examples from the texts to support your points.
Use the final paragraph to synthesize the information you presented in the previous paragraphs by restating your thesis and succinctly explaining how you have proven your thesis in your paper.
REVIEWER Notes
1.) The thesis should be clearly stated in the introduction. You start moving in the right direction of stating similarities in the speeches but the contrasts are not clearly stated. Clearly state similarities and differences. What do the speeches have in common? What are the most important differences between the speeches? Write a sentence that explains these ideas.

-The thesis you create should set up what you discuss in the body of the speech. Make sure the quoted areas are in alignment with the thesis.
2.) You should express distinct ideas in separate paragraphs. The discussion of differences is mixed in with the discussion of similarities. Like ideas should be grouped together. Within each paragraph, do all sentences relate to the topic sentence? Are there some sentences that are about another topic?

3.) You should identify and discuss meaningful differences in the two speeches using cited examples. Expand on a clearer discussion of differences. Don't rely on factual differences but make sure they are argumentative in nature. Explore the idea of a difference of "indifferences" that you started, or point out another way how approaches to human rights are different. In what important ways are the speeches different?

*You have credit for writing but there are two areas you can clean up: Wiesel is a "he" and not a "she" and paragraph 3 starts off with Body 3 (lose that).
4.) You should end with a conclusion that synthesizes the ideas of the essay. You should summarize the similarities and differences you discussed in the essay. Add a clearer summary of this within the conclusion you presently have. How can you summarize what you discussed?
