▪ “Treatment of Identity” (This could be found in “The Yellow Wallpaper,” “A Jury of Her Peers,” “Harrison Bergeron,” “A
Hunger Artist,” “Everyday Use,” etc.
In preparation for my literacy synthesis essay, I would like to write about “Treatment of Identity”. This will be a compare and contrast essay. I plan on using at least four of these short stories: “The Yellow Wallpaper,” “A Jury of Her Peers,” “Harrison Bergeron,” “A Hunger Artist,” and “Everyday Use”. To start the essay, I will explain each short story. Next, I will compare how each story had a character who’s struggled with their identity. Then in my final paragraphs, I will contrast the characters on the other side of the story. For example, in “The Yellow Wallpaper” I will take the narrators’ husband’s point of view; saying how he just wants his wife to get better so she can come home. I think this is important because in the “The Yellow Wallpaper” we got all of the narrator’s thoughts and feelings, this way I will be able to lean in on what the other characters may be thinking.
Thesis statement:
Authors often write stories based on their reality, which could be difficult when trying to address one's identity. All of these stories have their own way of being told, but all of the stories serve the same purpose to tell the readers how their identities were treated.

A paper that is all plot summary will fail. A paper that has some plot summary and anaylysis will pass if the analysis outweighs the plot summary. Therefore, do not use plot summary! As long as you stick to critical analysis of these works, you should be fine!
