The purpose of the reflective papers is to provide an opportunity to apply what we have discussed in class and you have read in the text to the real world and give you a chance to link theory and practice. There will be two papers due for the term. The grades will be based on completeness, quality of the examples, mix of theory and practical application, insightfulness, and technical quality of the writing as well as presentation. Each paper should be about 4-5 pages long and double spaced. Be sure to include examples and to explain your reasoning. In writing the papers, please disguise both the company and the people by using fictitious names, at your discretion. The first paper will be on: Groups/Teams and Leadership – Write a proposal to your manager on how your team could work more effectively together. Explain what the group does effectively and ineffectively – highlight the things that do work and those that do not work and why. Recommend solutions for a more effective outcome. Analyze and describe some features of your supervisor’s leadership style as well as individual styles of members of the team including yourself. At a minimum, discuss the following: • Discuss the MBTI – what do you think the MBTI would be of the team members as well as your manager? Incorporate your own type. Use examples. • Describe everyone’s communication styles – how often, about what, how open, how much feedback is given/taken, what’s missing, etc. • Describe the dynamics of power and influence that is exerted by all members of the team including your manager?
