Consider the following questions in your response to the film:
Describe: In as much detail as possible, describe your overall reaction to the film (both positive and negative). What did you feel after seeing the film? Were you provoked by the issues presented? What were the topics/issues that created the most impact on you, the most lasting impressions? Why these ones in particular?
Analyze: What is the purpose of the film? Do you think the filmmakers successfully communicated their message? Who was their intended audience? Would you include yourself in their intended audience?
Interpretation: What did you learn about the media, yourself, the society/culture you live in, as a result of watching the film? Have your perceptions of media corporations and their influence on democracy changed after viewing the film?
Evaluation: Assess the importance of the issues addressed in this film. Has Big Brother’s return benefited our media system? How has American journalism been effected by this return? Has the iPhone (Links to an external site.) exacerbated these problems? Do you think the film exaggerates the negative influence of media corporations on democracy? Were any important issues left out?
Engagement: What social/political changes would you advocate to help confront the issues raised in the film? What changes would you advocate to improve news media’s contribution to our democratic society? Would you support a Media Reform movement?
