The case study should be presented as an essay/report, complete with full references and written in an academic style, containing the following information: A social, cultural and historical contextualisation of the offender and their offences: What was society was like at the time they committed their offences? How might this social, cultural and historical context link in to their offences? What impact did their offending have on society at the time? What has been the lasting impact of their offending, if any? [300-500 words] An outline of the offender’s offences: This should mainly discus the number and types of victims, Modis Operandi, and duration of offending and notable occurrences during the offender’s offending period; it should not be a list of all the victims and what happened to them. [500 words] A profile of the offender: the offender’s biographical history and background (e.g. their childhood and life experiences) a discussion and explanation of their offending behaviour(s) (such as their offences, choice of victims and possible motives) in the context of relevant criminological and psychological theories of crime offender profiling and any typologies that they might fit. [1500 words] How, why and when the offender was caught: A reflection upon the police methods and investigative practices employed, the role of witnesses and eye-witness testimony, the relevance of the trial and courtroom practices, and so on.
