Select a particular crime with which you have some familiarity. For example, a high-profile homicide that occurred in your city or state, perhaps a case that caught your attention because of the modus operandi (MO) or the physical evidence that led to the conviction of the offender. You may also write about any case that you have been involved in as a witness, investigator, or forensic scientist. Prepare a written case study in which you compare and contrast the various investigative techniques applied to reconstruct events and identify the offender.
In addition, include responses to the following:
Provide an overview of the case, including the motive and background information about the victim(s) and the offender(s).
Describe the crime scene and outline potential crime scene contamination.
Critique the crime scene investigation including ethical evidence detection, development, collection, and preservation, including the chain of custody.
Identify the surveillance methods used in observing possible suspects.
Summarize court testimony of the forensic scientist and expert witness that you believe was important in the formation of the jury’s decision.
