Paper Instructions:
Sport law paper will focus on the issue surrounding PAYING COLLEGE ATHLETES.
Present both points of view, pros and cons. This will be done by identifying points of view on the topic that currently exist in the media (both written and digital), legislation, court cases, journal articles, books and any other research and information that exists on the topic.
You are to write on the issue and points of view in a clear and compelling 8 page paper. This 8 page requirement does not include the reference page(s) or cover page. The text (content) of the paper should NOT EXCEED OR BE LESS THAN 8 pages in length.
Paper will be evaluated for depth and quality of research, organization, form, substantive content, spelling, grammar, APA style writing and points of view of the topic chosen.
Additionally, the following points should be mention/researched:
- Why players weren't paid to begin with (amateurism)
- Now that the NCAA has agreed that student-athletes should be paid, how is this plan going to work exactly? Where will the funds come from?
- Ethical issues
- Will this affect the scholarships awarded? If so, how?
- Will this regulation be implemented throughout every division? (DI, DIAA, DII, DIII, NAIA, Junior College)
- Will it be performance based, likeness, jersey sales? What is the exact criteria that will be used to pay college athletes?
- XFL's ability to draft college players/Influences from outside leagues
- Targeted athletes from impoverished neighborhoods
The paper should not be limited to the points mentioned above. Anything else that can be added, should be; keeping in mind the 8 page requirement.
