They illustrate that various cultural norms has contributed in making the country slow in terms of development. According to the two authors, it has taken China many years to improve the level of childhood education (Jiaxiong & Jie 173). This is because many of the citizens do not value education as a major factor to consider in their life. The authors illustrate that although the government has made various strides in improving the level of education, it has long way to go in convincing the community the importance of education.

- On this book, Tubilewizc focus on critical issues that affect contemporary Communist China. He focuses most of his views on various aspects that relate to cultural and social issues. On the issues that relate to the roles that gender play in the society, the author illustrates that the government of China have a big task to play in making sure that it meets the requirements of the society. This book depicts that social issues affect the strategy of modernizing the country. According to the author, family system in this country is a major obstacle in procuring modernization. Together with the society, the family system limits the girl child in accessing proper education. The girl child drags behind in accessing necessary medication because of failure in the family system (Tubilewicz 223).
- The author depicts that the relationship between males and females in contemporary China plays a significant part in dragging the country behind. The population of females in the country tends to be low making the males dominating most geographical regions. Although this is an advantage on the issue of controlling population growth, the country has a problem of having an ageing population. Comparing with the other four sources in this paper, the book offers a clear illustration on the issues that drag the country behind in terms of development. This book is of significant importance in my research because the author demonstrates very well the strategy that the country ought to make in order to attain its target. Through this book, I came to realize the how gender plays a major part in hindering modernization in contemporary China.
