9. The art movement or period of history with which the artist is associated
Medium
The medium must be specific. For the purposes of this class, “photography”, “painting”, “sculpture”, “print” are not acceptably specific. Within each of those categories are many specific possibilities. Students must explain (in detail) the specific method of photography, painting, sculpture, or print employed by the artist.
Media specific to photography
The medium is not “camera” or “black & white”. Students must note the TYPE of camera, and go beyond mentioning digital or film. Get very specific. Different types of film and digital cameras exist. This is part of the research that YOU are supposed to be doing. Additionally, prints can be made in many different ways. Black and white prints can be made with silver on gelatin (or on gelatin coated paper, with platinum & palladium, gold, iron, with other noble metal salts). Color prints can be made with many chemicals upon many substrates. Inkjet printers are an option, but still must be listed more specifically.
Art (historical) Movement
Again, need more specific research into this. Photography is not a specific enough movement. There are developments and movements within photography, just like there are specific historical movements within painting, sculpture, printmaking, etc. When in doubt, give more information and turn it into a discussion (instead of a simplified proclamation).
Notation
Whether you use APA or MLA, you must make notes with the body of the text.
College-level work is not a book report. If you use an idea (whether a direct quote or indirect/paraphrased idea) you must note its source, along with the text that you are writing.
Colloquialisms should NOT be used for writing your papers.
