Week 8- Current events in Native Country…



Now that you have been exposed to a brief history of the American Indian, let us look at the idea of stereotypes, myths and the reality of life for many who live and claim Native tribal membership.



Reservations have the highest rate of suicide, drug abuse and alcoholism. More children go hungry on reservations and gangs and illegal activities have moved into the areas. In the last couple of decades for Native people…healthcare has been denied, tribal rights ignored and cultural history destroyed. Let us look at the modern issues facing Native peoples and remember that these issues are closely related to the past and their cultural history
