CURRICULUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Since the class will include students of different nationalities understanding how they use their language and speech will be important in helping the whole class. The diversity of the students’ culture should be used to the advantage and help in creating a good learning environment that is favorable to all. The teacher should practice patience and understanding since different students will show different level of understanding. The students will be grouped in different groups that will help achieve these goals. These goals must be flexible to the teacher and students because it will help them in their progress. These goals are the same for all students though the route to achieve them might be different.
GOALS
- The students will be able to recognize all the words that identifies items, feelings and actions.
- The students will be able to recognize all syllables (open and closed syllables).
- The students will learn the correct pronunciation of all words.
- The students will be able to read, listen and speak in English.
- Students will be able to employ intonation, emphasis, rhythm in their speech.
- To equip students with tools to be effective English communicators in the society.
- Help students understand how the American culture has influenced the English language to what it is known.
- To understand how culture affects language development.
- Help students understand the accepted cultural style used in communication.
- To equip students with good listening skills and speaking skills
- The students will be able to use correct grammar and vocabulary in their conversations.
To achieve this, it is important that the students learn the following minor goals:
- Learn the letters of the English alphabet
- Identify the different vowels
- Name words in each alphabet letter.
- Use different words to create a grammatically correct English sentence.
- Read fluently
- Write correctly any words dictated to them
Objectives
- Students will know the English alphabet
- Students will recognize the different vowels and sounds
- Students will be efficient when it comes to spelling of words
- Students will be fluent when it comes to pronunciation of words
- The students will know the different sounds and use this to identify the grammatical use of the words or alphabet letter.
- The students will be able to communicate fluently in English, that is hold up a conversation with other people
- The students will be able to use English words to express their feeling, or note different actions.
- The students will be able to differentiate the different tenses, that is, the past, present and future tenses and their different uses.
- The students will be able to use different vocabulary in the day to day living.
- The student will be able to read and write complete sentences
- The student will be able to use the different intonation levels in the different sentence forms
- The student will be able to know all the American cultures.
- The student will be able to correctly use the first, second and third person in their communication and writing.
- The student will be able to develop meaning of a new vocabulary from a given sentence.
- The student will be able to use communicative and functional language skills
- The student will be fluent in oral communication in English
