Civic Engagement
Civic engagement may take different forms of voluntary work through the organization involvement and participation. It is also a sense of individual responsibility that drives one to uphold his or her obligation in the community service (O'Leary, Lisa 55). It is for this reason that I took a personal initiative to join theNovi City Council to become a civically active member in the society. The council is made up of 19 members who were able to discover my compassion as the best value that could play a big role in the community service. Our work was revolving around identifying the needs that concerned children youths and families and directing them to the city council and also gives our recommendations. The team was focusing saving the youths from drugs and alcohol and how to prevent others from getting addicted. An initiative to achieve this plan incorporated the police department where a marathon was set up to raise $2000. This money was used in excelling the drug awareness about drug addiction. We were able to broadcast the drug education in the social networks especially in the local cable television. The money collected was used to put up warning stickers along the streets about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol. The engagement work has influenced my mode of socialization and how to handle different people at different levels. The workmates have helped me to gain experience in innovating and applying different problem solving techniques that are useful in my community.
My course in Drexel has been full of civic engagement activities that I have found pleasure to pursue. Civic engagement will look like a continuation of what I was doing with the city council in empowering the youth to live a productive life. It shall be a continuation of gaining experience and skills that shall propel my values more in imparting my fellow university students. Drexel University is committed towards becoming the most civically engaged university in U.S and therefore I fell that this is the best place for me. Actually the university can count on my support as a student in providing my services because it has become a part of my ethical obligation to be a civic volunteer(O'Leary, Lisa 55). My guaranteed presence is accompanied by my efforts to encourage other to join in the move. Many people will benefit from my past experience as well as the rejuvenated energy that I have had in the campus life. Drexel University has three dimensions from which it offers its support in civic work. Among the three dimensions, i will be ready to work in the faculty of research and academic programs which are meant to benefitdifferent individuals in the community. My work will beeducating the youths on various issues that seem to divert their focus from the core business of studying. I will be also take part in printing educative pamphlets and other reading materials that will spread our message. Considering how much I am into this work, I want my impact to reach a national level. All people will benefit from my services.
My public purpose in my future profession is toensure that youths grow to be productive people in the society.I hope to achieve this by ensuring that youths get the academic support that they might require, training them and diverting their focus from other bondages like drugs and alcohol. People with my profession who are willing to be part of the community service should join councils that carry out the work. They shall get nurtured and be able to participate in the problem solving in their communities for their benefits.
