Impact of quality of professors on the perceptions of teachers
Introduction
The running of the whole schooling system is dependent on different levels of the learned parties of education. Each body in the education system matters for the achievement of the student at the end of the schooling program. Teachers have several perceptions concerning their students with reference to the quality of professors operating in the field (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). These perceptions cuts across from academic views, morals, and ways of solving issues either academic or social all with reference to the professors’ quality. With poor quality of professors the outcome is seen on the students and the reverse which many schools works to attain also applies. This perceptions has impacted the activity of the teachers inregard to their productivity in the outcome of their students and their progress even in the late levels of their studies. Teachers henceforth believe that the quality of the professor is what affects their students’ performance and furthermore affect their career choice. Some of these perceptions have been proved by research to be the trend that has taken its course in the field (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015).
Teachers perceive that their students taste for a certain field is determined by the faculty members of the particular field. The faculty members, who are professors act as the gatekeepers who encourage new students into exploring a field or on the other hand by discouraging them from the area of knowledge (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). Research has found out that this has been attributed towards by what the students remember of the professors who inspire them and those that annoy them. If the faculty members of a field is comprised of professors who annoy students they tend to avoid the field as much as they can. On the other hand, the students tend to flock in fields with faculty members whom they like and find inspiring. Research has found out that the role of faculty members is important whether students have intended to major in the fields or not. It makes it important for chairs of departments and deans to recognize that they need more skilled personnel in their faculties for they are the ones who draw students into the field. There is a real danger of not considering this for it was indicated that many students make judgements generally not only of the professor in charge of their intended career field but with regard to the department as a whole (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). For example, student take examples of bad or annoying professors in the science field and because of the co-related units they end up writing off from the field generally.
There is also another perception which holds that the student’s achievement is directly correlated with the contemporaneous of the professor. Most universities in the United States use the student’s outcome in order to measure the teaching quality of the teachers. If the outcome is poor, many teachers perceive that the quality of the professor is low and vice versa to positive outcomes. On this note, the quality of professors impacts the overall performance of the school such that teachers taught by good professors during their undergraduate and post graduate degree programs yield best (Shen, Benson, & Huang, 2014). Teachers also perceive that the quality of the future professionals is highly dependent on the current professors in various faculties in the university. Many teachers have developed the habit of ranking the quality of professors to estimate and predict the quality of their students. Studies also have confirmed that the primary outcome of what professors input is much dependent on the quality of professor. To achieve this study analysis, variables such as the percentage points earned as well as standard deviation are normalized and worked out to give out the ranking of professors. Tenure decisions and promotions are normally made from these results.
Teachers have also perceived that all quality professors are the best problem solvers to issues related to academics. Teachers tend to consult the qualified professors when they want to combat various challenges such as handling students, solving disputes and when the need of making the right decisions arises (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). This perception has brought a remarkable effect on the direction to which academic decisions are made. Students find these professors as their reference point in ways of solving issues and views of the academic field due to what they see their teachers doing and do all they can to ensure they get to those pick levels. Administrators have made quality professors to be their consultants while the less qualified professors getting little or no attention from the school fraternity. On the same knot, students also value advice from the quality professors and ignore that from the less qualified (Shen, Benson, & Huang, 2014). This perception has made most of the school systems to be run in professors’ opinions. This has shown its results in the final progress of the schools, which is generally the performance of the students’ academic wise. This comes as a result of having teachers consulting different levels of professors which gives them different looks to their challenges which they directly impact on the students.
Another perception that teachers have of the professors concerning their students is that themorals and worldly understanding of the students depend on the professors fully. This has been found by research that students have the tendency to believe that the perception and stands of professors both morally and in worldly issues are right (Shen, Benson, & Huang, 2014). Students are always very keen for they go deep to the individual lives of the professors they think is good or find encouraging. They go deeper to knowing what the stands of those professors are in major issues of life and believe that those are the right trends to follow. This at later stages dictates thestudents’interest and choice of career sometimes with the curiosity knowing as much as their professors know and attaining their levels of understanding. The teachers find out that perceive that when we have morally upright professors it directly translates to good morals of their students. For this reason, school institutions that involve very professional and quality professors for their consultation have their students having greater achievements and objectives compared to those that do not. This achieved through teachers where they believe that the professor input is exactly their students output; therefore, if the professors do not induct an eager mind in the teacher it will directly affect the outcome of the students (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). This becomes the students’ characters from school to his or her future studies and working life in terms of lacking an eagerness to know which should affects the performance of the school. Making schools to have students possessing characters which are inclined to those characters of the professors they look upon (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015).
There are other ways through which teachers perceive that professors impact their students’ performance. This is because they believe that they deliver to their students the input of the professor both academically and even in the way of leading lives. They also believe that the professors they seek guidance from at last have their effect on the students. Research has proved this to be true in a great way due to the students thirst for guidance from people who are professionally at the top (Beckett, Nettiksimmons, Howell, & Villablanca, 2015). This has created a great influence and called for great attention to the conduct of the professors to ensure that the country maintains a morally upright and successful society. However much people say that character development is a personal choice it has been proved that there are outside factors that professors ought to understand to ensurethat character is maintained.
It can be concluded that current professors have a higher hand in the determination of the professor to expect in future. Quality school system is determined by the professors in the field for they influence the academic zeal of the students and also their sharpness to getting solution to problems. Concerning the faculty members of departments great care should be taken to ensure there is balanced intake to different fields. The rating of professors should also be done fairly where teachers should ensure they get the right professors to have positive results from their students. Teachers should also avoid some negative perceptions that affect students in cases where they should not. They should also ensure that their outcome is the best despite the quality of the professors they met being the best. Professors should highly take note of their influenceto the students who are still in schools to ensure that there is hope for having future quality people in the field.
