- At The Beginning: Let’s Identify the Crisis
- Introduction
- In this blog, I will focus much on how to identify the possibility of crises to occur in a certain geographic area. I will concentrate much on the crisis communication management in order to find possible ways that can help various organizations to prepare for a possible outcome of a crisis. In order to come up with a comprehensive solution of how to manage crisis, I will combine the information taught in schools and the real personal life experience. I will also include the experience from corporate levels of various organizations.
- Importance of Crisis communication
- A crisis is the occurrence of the unpredictable issues that may result to negative outcomes, which normally affect the organization performance. There are two different types of crises that may affect an organization, which include sudden and smoldering crisis (Coombs, 2011). A sudden crisis is the one that disrupts an organization without having any warning and may contribute to adversely impact on every department of the organization. A smoldering crisis is the one that is unknown to an organization and may result to outcome of negative news that may cause huge loses that include fines and penalties (Coombs, 2011). The organization ought to have the ability to predict a possible crisis in order to avoid any possible negative effect. There is an essential importance for every one to acquire the basic knowledge of crisis communication management. The reason why there is a need to acquire this information is because some of the unpredictable issues may occur and result to huge lose.
- The Crisis of Jeddah flood
- One of the unpredictable crises that have ever occurred in Saudi Arabia resulted in many organizations making many losses. The crisis occurred in a place known, as Jeddah after there was a heavy downpour of rain. Many of the organizations had not been able to make a comprehensive program that they would use in managing the expected crisis (Coombs, 2011). Although the crisis of flood in Jeddah was unpredictable, the organizations had the obligation to expect that such a crisis would occur. The reason for this being that Jeddah usually experience heavy rains but not in such a rate that happen at this particular moment.
- The worst crisis of floods in Jeddah occurred on 2009 and 2011. The floods were as result of intense rains that pummeled until late in the evening. The results of the floods were hilarious and resulted to a lot of destruction. The government reported about 100 deaths that occurred as result of the floods. Other major problems that came because of the floods include the destruction of building and communication services. There was destruction of the infrastructure and many vehicles broke down. Humanitarian organizations offered help to the residents of Jeddah after the floods. The floods had a great impact to many organizations because various operations could not occur in different departments.
- Conclusion
- The world is experience different types of crisis due to the change in environmental conditions. Although a crisis is unpredictable, organizations ought to come with various solutions that may help to curb the expected lose that arises when a crisis occurs. In most cases, a crisis result to various problems that affect many organizations and the life of common people. Regarding to the crises concerning floods that happened in my home city Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I will write on how we can be able to prevent such situations to happen in future.
