Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:
In this second question for Unit 4, we introduce the research theme that will continue throughout the remainder of the course. As you are learning about the historical schools of thought in psychology, you will also be involved in a parallel process of exploring how each school of thought asks important questions; what the nature of those questions is; and what methods each school of thought might use to explore the questions.
Identify a topic within your psychology specialization which is Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Discuss the topic in enough detail that others can gain a clear understanding of the issues involved.
Use these guidelines to discuss your topic:
What is the overall topic, in terms of subject matter (e.g. learning styles; PTSD; worker motivation; relapse in clients with addictions)?
What is already known about this topic and can be found in scholarly literature? Cite some literature that supports your topic.
What principles and values are associated with your topic (e.g. cognitive processes are important in learning; early traumatic experiences can affect later functioning; reinforcement is a powerful source of motivation)?
What questions do you want to ask about the topic that have not been answered by existing literature?
Research and cite at least three sources supporting your topic. At least one source should present empirical evidence about current knowledge about the topic, and at least one should indicate needs for further research into this topic.
