Pop musician Lady Gaga is known for her wild costumes and outrageous performances. As a result, the public were, and continue to be, intrigued as to who the woman is behind the carefully curated media image.
The following link directs you to a short, 15 minute interview of Lady Gaga, which was filmed for 60 Minutes in 2011, at the start of her career: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBk22UhcJIo.
For this assignment, you are asked to respond to the public’s intrigue:
Please use this interview to describe the personality of Lady Gaga using Freud’s theory.
In your analyses you should 1) use specific concepts from the theory and
2) describe specific scenes from the interview to demonstrate that you understand the theory and can apply the theory to real-life situations.
Your paper should include topics such as the id, ego, and superego; the psycho-sexual stages; the conscious and unconscious; and defense mechanisms. It is NOT enough to write that Lady Gaga “learned from experience” to act this way (or that she was “born this way” – pun intended), or that she had “unconscious motivations” that caused her to say something in particular. Be specific! You will be graded on your demonstration of knowledge of the concepts.

You may use any additional sources you feel are appropriate, although additional sources are not required.
All additional sources to which you refer in your paper must be cited appropriately, in APA style, using in-text citations and a reference page at the end of the paper. The reference page does not count toward the 2-3 page paper requirement (i.e., it is in addition to the 2-3 pages you write in response to the prompt).
I’m not looking for one specific answer, but rather I am looking to see that you can apply the concepts and make a solid argument for the conclusions you draw. None of us truly knows who Lady Gaga is – we are interpreting her behavior through a specific theoretical lens!
