Need to analyze a piece of media (article, audio, video, etc.) based on ANY ONE of the pdfs attached. 

The structure of the essay should be as follows:

1. an account of the author's theory/idea proposed in your chosen reading (for instance, Foucault's theory of power as presented in the History of Sexuality vol 1) and

2. an analysis of a piece of media using that author's theory (for instance an analysis of the Apple Watch commercial using Foucault's theory of power)

Note that these two parts should be thought of as two sections of a single essay. You don't have to give an analysis of the entirety of any reading. You only have to explain enough of the reading so that it can then be used to critique the chosen piece of media.

Adequately introduce an author's idea so that you can then use that idea to mount an insightful criticism of an article or other piece of media.

What I will be looking for: Have you articulated your chosen author's ideas clearly and accurately? Have you given enough detail so that you can then go on to use those ideas to critique your chosen piece of media? Have you given too much detail in explaining your chosen essay, giving details irrelevant to the critique of your chosen media? Have you chosen to critique a piece of media that is appropriate and relevant to the reading you chose? Does the essay critically assess the chosen media and not simply explain it? And finally, is the essay on the whole a thoughtful analysis of both the chosen reading and media and does it teach me something new? Or is it sloppily thrown together and unilluminating?

Before you start writing the essay, I want you to cross check the "piece of media" you choose with me. I also want you to let me know which attached pdf you choose from the 3 before you start writing the essay.

This is an important essay and I need to be sure you have read the instructions carefully and understand it thoroughly.
