- Introduction
- One of the essential parts of the communication study is the interpersonal skills. There are various reasons that can result to a change in interpersonal skills that include people who comes with different perceives of facts. The other part that would be an essential of the communication skills is the conflict styles. An example of a film that shows various facts that relate to interpersonal communication is the “Crash”. The reason why the filmmaker named the movie as “Crash” is that it depicts how various different groups of people interact and collide with each other. The filmmakers in the Crash movie come up with different kinds of story and this contributes to making it relate with interpersonal skills. “The movie depicts how the relationship between people might change because of different situations”. According to the filmmaker, he depicts that the story of the film concerns about his story. According to the above reasons, the film by name Crash will be the baseline of this research paper that will show how the interpersonal communication changes because of different issues in the society.
- “Interpersonal communication refers to how different types of people relate to one another in the activity of their daily life” (Thomas & Hersen, 2004). Interpersonal communication may also refer to how people relate in most of their physical interactions that they undertake in their daily lives. This means that it refers to the process of that people normally use to express their ideas by means of ideas, and thoughts. According to the movie, the audience can depict various scenes in that relate to interpersonal communication. The movie depicts how different kinds of people from various races interact and collide with one another. The movie also depicts how the issue of gender may result to an interaction of different people from various geographical places. “The filmmakers also try to illustrate the Communication Theory of Identity”(Thomas & Hersen, 2004, p. 28). On this case, the movie helps to identify and connect the differences that appear in various classes of people in the community. According to various scenes in the movie, conflicts result due to misunderstanding that exists on people who depend on each other. Having interpersonal communication skills is the best tool that an individual can acquire in order to build a relationship. According to wood, “Conflict exists when people who depend on each other have different view, interests, values, responsibilities, or objectives and perceive their different as incompatible” (Wood, 2010, p.144). Considering the issue of uncertainty reduction theory, the movie depicts how various people interact on the first time when they meet in order to reduce any chance of conflict that might occur. The movie depicts that every time of in the life of a human being, there is a room to interact and share with others. According to Cheadle, who is the main character in the movie, no body touches you. “We are always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something” (Crash, 2005, p. n.p). According to the movie, some of the people get affected while others seem to be victimized because of racism. In an organization, lack of proper relationship may result to poor outcome. According to Thomas and Hersen, “ Level and gender are salient and ubiquitous features in organizations. “Moderate or strong effects on conflict styles would have significant implications” (Thomas, Gail, & Schaubhut, 2008, p.148).
- Conclusion
- The main reason of exploring the movie is to depict how the interpersonal communication changes because of different issues in the society. According to the movie, it is clear that the when people think of issues relating to conflict, they realize that there must be a cause. Most of the people fail to understand that they ought to have active listening skills in order to create a strong relationship with one another. According to the movie, the main message given out is that everyone has the obligation of acquiring interpersonal communication skills in order to help in developing a strong relationship.
