Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:
As a way of understanding motion pictures and their relationship to television, video, and the internet.
1. Make a list of the three most recent films you have seen in theaters.Where did you first hear about the film (TV ad, trailer before another movie, a freind, movie review site, etc.)? After initially hearing about it, why did you chose each film? Was it the film's stars? A good review? The director? Advertising? Recommendations from friends? Or something else?
2. Now list the three most recent films (not the newest films necessarily, but the ones you have watched recently) you have seen on TV, DVD, or streaming video. Do not include the films assigned for this class in that list (because you didn't choose those yourself). Why did you chose each film? Was it the film's stars? A good review? The director? Advertising? Recommendations from friends? Or something else?
2a. Why did you choose to watch these three films on DVD, TV, or streaming video rather than see them in theaters? Were you unsure of the quality and unwilling to risk the money for the ticket? Were they older films that are no longer in theaters? Or was it something else? In general, how do you decide whether to pay to see a film in the theater or wait for it to come out on DVD or Netflix?
3. There is a lot of information about old and new movies available on the internet including tons of movie review sites. What source do you trust most to give you a good idea of what a film will be like before deciding to watch it? Why do you trust that source?
