Hillary Clinton, who is a former Secretary of state and senator for New York belonging to the Democratic Party was also a candidate for Democratic Party’s nomination for presidential seat but lost to barrack Obama in a contentious primaries but later became a leader for State Department. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Senator is a self-identified socialist and an independent representative of his state. He associated himself with issues affecting the middle class such as growing disparity in wages and promotion of sources for renewable energy. Hillary’s campaign was funded by the America’s Teachers, Correct the record, Priorities USA Action, Blue Answer PAC, Hillary for America Faith Voters PAC and African Americans for Hillary. Bernie Sanders contributions to the his campaign came from Collective Actions Pac, Feel Bern, Progressive Voters of America , Las Cruces for Bernie and Progressive Kick.
These contributions and lobbying can cause a lot of inefficiencies in economic policy. The main way that this can cause this is through rent-seeking by asking special favours from the government rather than engaging in economic activities that are productive. This means that the lobby groups and the organisations will spend a lot of time trying to get the bigger portion of the economic pie rather than lobbying for policies that will not be inefficient or wasteful to the economy. Politically, these campaign contributions can affect directly the policy outcomes and can also have a lot of influence on the elections in regard to who can or cannot vie for a seat. Socially, these activities can set a trend on the attitude of the community or family towards the politics of a certain party or region. For both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, there was no self-financing or any federal funds. However, Hillary Clinton had a lot of contributions from more groups and organisations than Bernie Sanders. These contributions and lobbying can lead to inefficient use of resources and thus diverts them from activities that would more productive to all of us as citizens (John Craig and David Madland, 1).
