Tramps travel ban
The article highlights the sentiments of Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State, about the travel ban introduced by President Donald Trump against people from various Muslim countries. Madeleine asserts that America has been created by immigrants from other countries who form the largest population. The travel ban goes against the spirit of Liberty’s Statue that welcomes people with open arms. She argues that the travel ban has brought about more danger by making some countries not able to share cooperate with America through sharing of intelligence (Mahtani, 1). The ban that keeps refugees – from 7 predominantly Muslim countries - from immigrating into the country for 120 days has led to confusions at the airport for people with green cards. Alluding to US commitment to diversity, she says that the reasoning behind has no factual basis but is based on statements that makes no sense. She asserts that the administration should read the constitution rather than just placing blame on a whole religion (Mahtani, 1).
The article’s assertions are correct in light of the ban being illegal and unreasonable since banning people from countries associated with one religion does not help the interest of United States. Rather, the ban alienates US from the rest of the world including those countries that have been its partners whose population has helped in advancing the American Agenda. Placing blame on the entire religion for the security challenges is illogical and does not augur well with US long-term interest.
As an alternative to the travel ban, the administration should seek to apply intelligence services in selecting those individuals that are threat the US instead of blanking the whole population. The government should also seek the support of affected nations to weed out people who cannot be trusted.
