U.S. Security and the Measures against Terrorism
Despite the implementation of severe measures against the occurrence of terrorism attacks, the strategy is considered to be counterproductive by critics. Based on critics the dependence of the U.S on tactical measures has resulted in less success and this would be resolved by focusing more on political, social, economic and religious terrorism causes (Schmitt, 2017). In my opinion, the American approach is strategic since the issue of terrorism attack is a security one.
The tactical approach utilized by the U.S government is more realistic than that being proposed by critics that is focused on economic, social, religious and political causes. In that, the tactical approach relies more on power to ensure that every individual is offered security without affecting the rights or freedom of persons (Boon, Huq, & Lovelace, 2012). There is suitable balance amid national security and the individual liberties in the state since the utilization of military measures and law enforcement does not affect the freedom of persons to participate in social, religious, economic and political operations unless they are a threat to security. However, civil liberties are normally violated in the process on the basis of religious beliefs or cultural values (Schmitt, 2017).
Offering protection to civil liberties while combating terrorism can be minimized in effective and less complex ways. This can best be achieved through the creation and implementation of legal principles and awareness creation programs (Schmitt, 2017). This will help to limit the amount of power that is utilized while combating terrorism that leads to the loss of individuals freedom. Creating intelligence development programs will help in creating an understanding among citizens who are highly worried about the accumulated power that is utilized by the government (Schmitt, 2017). This strategies can create better relations amid civilians and the government thus leading to the low utilization of military enforcement.
In my opinion, the use of tactical approaches is more reasonable as compared to the propositions that critics are making. This is mainly because this may result in the development of issues and loosen the national security while attempting to increase the national civilians liberties. The government is entitled to the power it utilizes as well as the application of military measures and law enforcement. What can be done is to ensure that the national security measures do not violate the rights of citizens are given by the constitution.
