CRITERIA ASSESSED: Knowing & Understanding Communicating Thinking Critically You are a consultant working for the World Bank and you have been asked by the Government of a country to explain and justify recommendations for how inequality could be sustainably addressed. There are a range of strategies that have been proposed to address inequalities around the world. Which strategies have been most effective and sustainable? Using your knowledge from this unit, you will prepare a written response to the following prompt. “Based on examples from your MYP studies, explain and justify how you would sustainably address inequality in a country of your choice.” You should make reference to income and gender inequality. You will need to include the following: A desсrіption of the inequalities that exist, Evidence and data to support this, Solutions to the inequality, supported with evidence and appropriate examples Justify the examples (how are they appropriate) Evaluation of the effectiveness and sustainability of these solutions INSTRUCTIONS: You will have 3 class periods in which to research and write your response. You will be allowed to choose the country about which you are writing the report, but you will need to check with the teacher as no two students will have the same country. Here is an exemplar, although please note that some of the specific requirements were different last year when this report was written. The report should be submitted to turnitin.com and Google Classroom. Format: Here is an exemplar Your response should be written in a report format and should include the following: Section Contents Title Page A brief summary of the investigation e.g. A report investigating gender and income inequality in Ruritania. Name Teacher Introduction Give background to the country and region selected. Explain the issues faced by the country in relation to gender & income inequality. All statements should be supported by evidence. This could be statistics (e.g. indicators of development) or desсrіption (e.g. from Gapminder). All supporting evidence should be cited (using MLA format) Analysis This section should explore potential solutions to the issues faced by the country in question. It should be divided into sections using subheadings. Each solution should have: An explanation of how it will work. Examples of other countries where it has been successful. A justification for its selection in this case i.e. why it is appropriate/why it will work in this case. Evaluation of the effectiveness and sustainability of this solution It is possible to have either: Two solutions for gender inequality plus two solutions for income inequality. Or: Two solutions that address both income and gender inequality. Data, charts, diagrams & statistics should be incorporated as evidence to support your explanations. Conclusion/Recommendations Should summarise the recommendations for the country. Briefly state the benefits to the country. Identify any limitations that may affect the success of the policies. Uses MLA 8 including a Works Cited page and consistent and accurate in-text citations. synthesizes information to make valid, well-supported arguments. You effectively combine data, examples and information from a wide variety of sources to make logical, clear and valid suggestions.
