Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:
When studying health policy, reviewing the systems that exist in other countries can serve as a great resource for guiding reform decisions here in the United States. You may have noticed that many of the provisions contained within the ACA reflect some of the characteristics and qualities that already exist within the health systems of other countries. We can learn a lot about our own healthcare system by studying the health insurance structures of other countries, and that is exactly what you’ll be tasked with doing for your course project.
Project Description
For your course project, you will be tasked with selecting two countries from this week’s content to summarize and compare with the United States healthcare system. You will be required to outline the key components of each country’s health insurance system, highlighting what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of each, and then using that research to provide suggestions for improving policy here in the United States. Your course project should follow a basic structure such as the one below:
1) Identify the two countries that you will be summarizing in your course project. Utilizing your textbook and outside research, provide an overview of the demographics for each country and the health insurance system that exists within each.
2)Summarize how the health insurance system within each country functions. How is it funded? Who is covered? How are providers paid for services rendered? What benefits packages are provided?
3)Share your perspectives on the pros/cons of each country’s health insurance system.
Based on what you’ve learned from your research – share your thoughts on how the lessons learned could be applied to improve the United States healthcare system. What policy recommendations would you have for improving the US system? Would you lean towards a single-payer health insurance system or prefer expanding upon a private insurance model?
Your course project should be approximately 5-6 pages in length and should utilize at minimum five (5) external sources. All citations should follow appropriate APA style guidelines (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
