- Sensation and Perception
- Sensation refers to how an individual uses various sensory organs in order to depict everything that is in the surrounding environment. Various organs in the human body play a significant role in relation to sensation. According to the roles that the sensory organs play in the body, an individual is able to make various interpretations of various issues in the environment. Perception refers to the interpretation that the sensation organs maker to the body in order to act accordingly. The perception process helps an individual in perceive various objects in the environment. Various organs that help in detecting what is in the environment include the following:
- Visual organ
- The eye helps in seeing various objects located in the environment. The eye combines with other sensation organs in order to offer the body a chance to function various obligations. For example, when a person requests a friend to pass something in the table, it will take the ear as sensation organ to hear the massage but the eye will see the particular needed item (Goldstein 56). There is stimulus for the visual, which is light that helps in seeing what is in the surrounding environment. The stimulus has various physical characteristics that include the wavelength and intensity. Pureness is also a physical characteristic of the vision stimulus.
- There are various psychological attributes associated with vision that include brightness of a particular object and the saturation. In most cases, a particular individual may have vision problems. The vision problems have to be in association with the eye, which is the main receptor. Problems associated with eye include blindness and failure to adopt in partial darkness.
- Auditory organ
- The auditory organ helps an individual to detect any sound in the environment. The physical stimulus that assists the ear to detect various activities is the sound waves. In order to depict any sound in the environment, the ear performs various essential obligations. The ear comprises of various parts that include the outer, middle and the inner ear. When a person request for a particular item, all the parts of the eye corporate to detect the sound and issue the required command (Goldstein 260). The sensation receptors associated with the ear are the hair cells found in the cochlea. According to research done by several scientists is that the hair cells do vibrate. The study of the research shows the hair cells vibrate the same as the sound. In most cases the sound that from different frequencies may result in maximum activation of the hair cells. Problems associated with ear may result to deafness. Most of these problems are a result of infection when a child is still young.
- The smell
- The sensation of smell known as olfaction helps in detecting anything that is in the surrounding environment. In order to detect the smell that is in the environment various the proteins in the nasal gland plays a significant role in activation of the sense of smell. According to various researches done by scientists, receptor cells in the nasal cavity assist in depicting the smell of the surrounding environment. The tissue located in the nasal cavity assist in housing the receptors for smell (Goldstein 156).
- Taste
- There are tastes that an individual may be able to detect through the help of various receptors. The receptor cells help in sensing the primary tastes that include sweetness or bitterness of a particular item. The other two basic tastes include sour and bitter. The sensation of taste known as gestation helps an individual in distinguishing what to eat (Goldstein 367).
