Reflection on Ageism Article

Introduction           

            Ageism is a process where individuals are discriminated or stereotyped because of their old age, and it involves making positive and negatives comments about them. The positive comments examples include that old person is sweet and good, wise and adorable while the negative comments examples include all old people are tedious,  they do not know how to drive well, idlers and they are not sexual.

            Social workers have to address the ageism problem by learning and getting knowledge about the aging process, and this will help them to achieve their goals. Social workers can help the older people to have a healthy romance life by respecting their romantic matters.  Also, social workers should be willing to move beyond what there are used to do and hold critical social aspects to help the aging group and be able to work with older people.  The social worker should encourage the aging individuals about romantic issues by ensuring them that old age does not talk immunity to sexually transmitted diseases. Social work professionals should create a friendly environment where they can discuss love issues with older people (Amanda, 2009)

             In conclusion, everybody is surrounded by ageism, and we all have the ageist attitude. The problem is that people make judges and make bad comments about the whole group of the old people not realizing that old people should be valued because they are unique and valuable being. When the old people are devalued in the society, then it makes people treat as a minority group and disrespect them. Ageism problem can be addressed by recognizing ageist language and attitudes among people and ensuring that there are opportunities in the organization even for the older people.
