Slide 1:  Social issues title 

Slide 2:  Official definition of social issues - Please make sure that you use an official definition and cite your source.  

Example:  A hate crime is a traditional offense like murder, arson, or vandalism with an added element of bias. (FBI, 2017)

Slide 3:  Give some background or historical aspects of your topic.  Please make sure you cite your information.  

(For slides 1-3 I was told to "use proper APA citation and referencing" as feedback) 

Slide 4:  Possible Contributing Factors to Social Issue - Linking the historical background & contributing factors

Slide 5:  Statistical Information: Must be empirically based on statistics.  
You may use graphs for this slide.  Please make sure you are able to explain the image and that it is based on an actual empirical study.  

Slide 6:  Apply the functionalism theory to your social issue.  (Please watch the videos on theory located in the social issue presentation tab) 
According to Brittanica Encyclopedia (2018), functionalism theory is defined as theory based on the premise that all aspects of a society—institutions, roles, norms, etc.—serve a purpose and that all are indispensable for the long-term survival of the society.

Slide 7:  Apply the conflict theory to your social issue topic.  
According to Sociology Dictionary (2020), conflict theory emphasizes the role of coercion, conflict, and power in society and that social inequality will inevitably occur because of differing interests and values between groups, particularly the competition for scarce resources.

Slide 8:  Apply the symbolic interactionist theory to your social issue topic.
According to Sociology Dictionary (2020), symbolic interactionist theory emphasizes how society is possible because of the shared meanings and social patterns created during social interactions.

Slide 9:  Possible movements that may have addressed your issue and their contributions. 
For example:  Me too movement, Black Lives Matters movement, etc. 
Slide 10:  You may include a 2-minute clip from Youtube (Please make sure it is embedded in your powerpoint presentation. 
Slide 11:  Conclusion:  You may include why you decided on the topic and your personal take on the topic.
Slide 12:  References:  Please make sure your references are in proper APA format
