Global Warming
Introduction
Global warming is one of the most significant issues that need great attention nowadays. There is much more information relating to global warming known not only by the academics but also the public and the leaders. Most of this information tends to show the significant effects of global warming on how it causes various ecological and social changes. Changes that relating the global climate are advancing in a very fast way than many people would expect. However, the unfortunate issue is that most of the leaders do not seem to realize the effects of these outcomes. This report is aimed at convincing members of the congress concerning the two opposing viewpoints relating to the impacts of global warming.
What is global warming?
First, it is well for every one of us to understand what is global warming. Global warming refers to the significant changes that the world is experiencing nowadays because of the rising temperatures. Study indicates that there is an increase in the atmospheres temperatures and those in the oceans. Some of the cause of global warming includes human activities (Maslin, 2006).
Causes of global warming
Most of the human activities tend to cause an increase in the levels of greenhouse gases. This increase of gases is the one that most scientists refer to cause effects on greenhouse or causes global warming. While leaders address the issue of global warming, it is important that they consider both the positive and negative effects related to this issue (Cline, 2007). Unfortunately, most people only consider the negative issues of global warming forgetting that is also has positive effects. Some of the positive effects of global warming include:
Positive effects of Global Warming
Environmental
Global warming tends to depict positive effects on the climate in the fact it helps in the creation of greener rainforests. Moreover, global warming tends to enhance plant growth in the Amazon. The other positive effect is that global warming helps in the increase of vegetation in the northern latitudes. Global warming also tends to cause an increase in plankton biomass in some parts of the ocean. This is an advantageous aspect as some of the creatures depend on the planktons for their well-being (Fuchs, 2007).
Occupational
Global warming also has another positive effect on the fact it helps in creating more places that are favorable for human occupation especially in the Greenland areas. Some of these areas that experience frozen climates include the Arctic, Antarctic and Siberia (Fuchs, 2007). Global warming is believed to contribute in more plant growth because of the favorable high temperatures. Most of the areas in the Greenland areas have harsh conditions that are not favorable for human occupation (Fuchs, 2007). However, with the increase in temperature at the atmosphere, it is evident that the climate of these areas in Greenland is changes and becoming more human-friendly.
Economic
Another significant issue is that global warming is causing a decrease in the level of gigantic ice sheet in most of the frozen regions. This has resulted in many people occupying the Greenland areas in such of gold, cooper and other elements like iron (Cline, 2007). Moreover, the melting ice has also made it possible for and easier to discover oil reserves. Another economic advantage of global warming depicts that nowadays only less energy consumption is required in order to warm the frozen regions. Another significant economic advantage associated with global warming is the fact longer growing seasons that occur when there are hot temperatures tend to cause an increase in agricultural activities. This means that some of the most of the Greenland areas are now enjoying more agricultural products because of global warming (Fuchs, 2007).
Negative effects of Global Warming
The negative effects of global warming tend to take a significant large part compared to the positive effects. Some of the areas that experience negative effects of global warming include:
Agriculture
Global warming tends to cause an effect on agriculture in the fact that it leads to occurrence of various negative issues. For example, global warming leads to the reduction of carbon dioxide, which is an essential element for the growth of plants. Moreover, global warming leads to occurrence of floods and droughts of which affect agriculture in a significant way (Cline, 2007).
Health
Global warming tends to cause significant effects on health in the fact that many diseases are emerging and increasing nowadays (Fuchs, 2007). For example, additional of heat in the atmospheres has been associated with occurrence of various skin cancerous diseases. This makes people more vulnerable to death. Another issue is that global warming encourages migration of diseases bearing insects that are favorable to the warm climates. Some of these insects include mosquitoes that transmit and cause malaria (Fuchs, 2007). It has been reported that mosquitoes are nowadays seen in areas that they have not been before.
Conclusion
The above information addressed in this report indicates that there are two opposing viewpoints relating to the impacts of global warming. One of these viewpoints is the fact that global warming causes various positive effects. The positive effects relates to environment, occupation and economic factors. The negative effects relates to agriculture and health. While addressing the issue of global warming, there is a need to check on these issues.
