Fine Art & Performance Critiques This course will require a Fine Art Critique that will be worth 10% of your overall grade for the course. *Be sure to consult the ″Getting Started″ module and the due dates document to note when this is due. An Introduction to the Fine Arts Before you begin this assignment, you will need to consider some fundamental methods of examining and evaluating great works of art and music. Read The Arts: An Introduction Fine Art Critique Instructions: Select a work of art from the Chattanooga State Museum of Art: Chattanooga State Museum of Art (Includes the various sculptures and paintings installed across the campus) In a Word document, type a three-part critique to include the following: Part One: Identify the artist and name of the piece (if available) Identify the medium: watercolor, oil painting, charcoal drawing, sculpture, collage, black & white photograph, etc. Briefly identify the location of the work on campus. Part Two: Write a paragraph and identify schools of influence, artistic techniques, and/or historical styles seen in the art and justify your identifications by connecting them to specific details from the work (200 words minimum) Example: chiaroscuro, rococo, neo-classical, impressionist, cubist influences, or similarities to the work of a specific artist Part Three: Conclude with your personal response to the work: why you chose it, its appeal, and so on. *NOTE*: You will need to attach an image of the work with your critique
