CONCEPT OF LEADER
I have some skills and traits and I believe they are very important as they help in leading effectively. First, I have self-confidence. As leader, I understand my personal abilities and employ them in developing motivation and team work. I am disciplinary thinker and I fully understand the business environment, and I am sure I have the ability to bring transformation to create a new vision. I believe that to attain growth, I should take prudent risks and apply problem solving abilities to bring productive outcomes (Northouse, 2013). Other point as to why I believe am confident is that I have the ability to create high self-esteem to other people and I am able to develop cooperative relations and motivation to others. The reason as to why am able to motivate others is because I have integrity which motivates me to become committed. I display honesty and trustworthiness and these helps in motivating and inspiring confidence to others. I prefer doing the right thing and I use my conscience to differentiate the right and wrong things. Other trait which makes me an effective leader is communication (Northouse, 2013). I ensure that all staffs in all departments get up-date information related with organization goals, visions and the need to improve performance and create a productive work. In addition, I have technical and human skills. Technical skills mean that I am competent and knowledgeable and I understand the organization rules, operations, products and services, and procedures needed to produce high productivity. Human skills means that I have interpersonal skills which help me understand the people’s behavior and attitudes. Thus, as a leader I use effective communication in order to motivate people toward achieving organization goals efficiently. I apply interpersonal skills in all levels of management to ensure that followers strive to achieve success (Northouse, 2013).
However, there are skills and traits I need to implement in order to improve my performance in leadership and more importantly in public administration. In this case, the traits which I may need are sociability and determination. I understand that as a leader in public administration, I have to create strong relationship with people. Thus, I need sociability trait so that I can be able to communicate effectively with people and deal with disputes and disagreement in promoting cooperation. I also need to develop social and cooperative relationships and consider the well-being of the people. Second, I need the determination trait so that as a leader in public administration, I am able to employ dominance and initiatives and ensure that works are effectively done through directing workers in an effective manner (Northouse, 2013). Determination will also help me strive to achieve the goals through addressing obstacles and employing strategies to achieve success. Finally, I need conceptual skills so that as a leader, I can employ ideas and become creative thinker in developing the organization. Since as a leader I work with all level of management including the higher levels, conceptual skills will asset in developing strategic and cognitive skills in developing the business (Northouse, 2013).
