Medea’s Family reunion is a movie full of drama and comedy. Madea the central character of the film , got an order from a court to be a guardian to a naughty and rebellious teen, Nikki. Consequently, the role of shaping the values and behavior of Nikki fall solely in the hands of Madea. She has to bring unity within her family and bring the extended family together through a family reunion. The essay will critically review the family evaluation of the Madea and her family members. Moreover, it will give out a comparison between various characters within the film and how it affects the fabric of the family and extends into the society a whole. On the other side, character give clues on the types of life styles and routines that pass from one family member to the next due to common practices.
Plot and setting of the film
The movie covered all aspects of a family. That is, the good, bad and ugly sides without leaving the funny side. The plots rotate around the romantic adventures of Madea’s nieces, Lisa and Vanessa. The two women are half-sisters. Lisa is in a stable relationship with a rich banker, Carlos. Carlos has a heavy temper. On other hand, Vanessa is a single parent with two children sharing two different fathers. Frankie is a bus driver who pursues Vanessa with the intention of making her his lover. The relationship between Vanessa and Frankie grows, as they genuinely love each other. Lisa is afraid to speak out about her an abusive relationship. It is important to note that Madea is likable and gives advice to both young and old family members (Smith, 2011).
Character development of Madea’s family across generations
In the perspective of a nurse, most characters in the movie have wisdom and rectify anything they find unpleasant or a behavior that can affect the entire family. In other words, they try healing a mistake before it infects other family members. For instance, Madea , throughout the movie gives counsel through proverbs and other facts about life. It is the strictness of Madea that makes Lisa and Vanessa find their path in life and gain new confidence in themselves (Smith, 2011).
Madea is kind and knowledgeable. Even after becoming a foster parent to Nikki, she is able to shape her behavior using her past wisdom. For example, Madea converses with Nikki’s teachers about her character and gets the hint that Nikki does not usually complete her homework. Therefore, Madea disciplines Nikki with a belt when she arrives home from school. Madea’s character is able to shape the entire family through her impact and influence on Lisa and Vanessa. Lisa and Vanessa will then impart the knowledge of Madea to their children. The chain will continue and live even after Madea’s demise. In summary, Madea is able to change the behavior and values of her nieces through her kind words and experience in the world. The family members influenced Madea will later use the influence on their children hence having a pendulum effect (Carey, 2016).
Evaluation of sociocultural and exercises passed from generation to generation
The characters in the movie stumble upon each other’s secrets during living room socialization periods. The movie displays black culture and tries to campaign for unity and love within the community. The fact that the movie openly displays its dislike for upper middle class by coercing them to part with secrets such as domestic abuse and even rape shows its stand on certain societal issues. For example rich husbands end up beating their wives and uncouth mothers end up giving their daughters to old men in exchange for money (Carey, 2016).
The main character, Madea ensures that Christian ideals mix into the black American culture through pop and soul music. For illustration, the poem by Maya Angelou cements the last forgiveness in the film so that the family may become more united and leave the past behind and exhibit black power and love (Carey, 2016).
Themes within the film, the environment, and other negative components seen in the movie
In a nurse’s perspective, the theme of drug abuse comes out loudly and clearly. The characters in the movie indulge in alcohol and champagne in some of the scenes. Even at the family reunion, there is wine and other types of alcohol. The characters seem to be enjoying the drinks during meals (Richardson, & Project Muse, 2007).
Joe and Madea have a sour relationship as siblings. They are mean to each other and remind the audience that they are a bad example to emulate in their real families lives. The comedy and that accompanies their relationship scenes make it bearable to watch. On the other hand, Victoria brings out the theme of deceit as she forces her daughter into a loveless relationship for material gain. Although her actions comes back to haunt her, she refuses to apologize to her daughter (Richardson, & Project Muse, 2007).
Conclusion
In summary, the movie is compelling and entertaining. Even though it is comical in nature, it tries to bring out common ills in the society and tries to rectify the domestic issues such as sexual abuse and violence and family disunity.
