Paper Instructions:
Movie Paper: Students will watch the movie, Les Misérables (2012 version – Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway): a movie based on the novel of Victor Hugo. At the heart of the movie/novel is the ancient and perennial theme – The Letter of the Law and the Spirit of the Law. Upon reflection, the student will write a three (3) page, double-spaced paper, entitled “The Letter of the Law and the Spirit of the Law,” addressing the nature of the law and how the subject of morality relates to/is the law: what really is this thing called law? The movie alone, together with the students’ thinking and imagination, will be all that is needed to write the paper. There is no right answer. Students who truly struggle with the concepts do well.
