Looking for a Leader is a song by Neil Young which largely addresses the need for a certain kind of a leader who will bring transformation to the country. The song is about the need for a leader who will bring unity to the country before its systems dies. The artists allude to the need for a young leader who will cleanse the country of the corruption, associate with the people to make America strong. The leader being sought is in the country, only that he has not been found and as the country is going to election the leader must be found. The leader should be should be clean and with a great spirit to leader America which has beautiful but ugly inside. The leader should be able to walk among his people and lead them from desolation.
The wording of the song relates to a S3-supportive leadership that involves high supportive and low directive. This kind of a leader does not direct his focus solely in goals but by using supportive behavior, he or she is able to bring the skills of the follower around some given tasks (Northouse, 2013). The leader is able to associate with followers through listening, seeking for input and offering feedback. The followers are given an opportunity to make decisions on a daily basis. The followers who are alluded to in the song are the citizens who do not have the motivation to bring change due to bad leadership. The leader should be able to interact with the followers and help in cleansing the country of the current corruption and make the country great on the inside.
