Harlem Renaissance

Musician: LOUIS ARMSTRONG

The African American music became popular during the Harlem Renaissance and one of the popular musician during this time was Louis Armstrong. I can say that Louis contributed to the world culture by being defiant to the prejudice and struggling to create a sense of identity.  He is recognized as a great man who moved to the nation's cities, set new goals and expressed his attitude that ‘Black is beautiful' through music. His autograph could help understand more on Louis' talent, his historical life and more importantly, look up to him.  His spirit and talent moved beyond the African-American societies to white cities such as the New York and Kansas City.  The reason as to why I would like to have Louis’s autography is because of his participation in the Harlem Renaissance through performing jazz music.  I would like to know more about the African-American culture, the literary talents of the blacks and their life in the American society.  I understand that the art and music have defined the black's social and racial status. Note that in 1920, American society was characterized by racism and segregation and the role of jazz was to challenge the status quo (Herringshaw, 2011). Remarkably, jazz was associated with a positive attribute such as the creation of informal relations between Blacks and whites.  The major reason as to why I have selected Lous is because his jazz music was not only the best musical form, but it also gave rise to more racial equality. The jazz in the period of 1920s brought an enormous impact which made the period to be defined as ‘the Jazz Age’ (Herringshaw, 2011). Louis Armstrong's jazz was most appreciated because his work had a positive impact on the position of African Americans. As a popular musician and the greatest artist in jazz, he dislodged the racial issues among many challenges that African Americans faced in the South in the 20th century.
