3. RESEARCH PLAN [Varies: 2 to 5+ pages]
3.1 Research Methods
Begin this section with a brief introductory paragraph explaining where you would send students to search for
source information, what keywords you suggest, and what you think the researchers should try to find. PLEASE
READ the chapter in Moodle for an explanation of all the standard research methods.
3.1.1Secondary Research This is where you should write about how the team of student researchers in the fall
semester could search online and in the library materials for studies and other related documentary
information. Include search terms here you think would be helpful.
3.1.2Primary Research Here you should write about your ideas for conducting experiments, observations,
surveys, interviews, etc. in order to complete the project you are proposing.
3.2 Budget Considerations
This section includes your estimate of the resources, both financial and time, you think would be required to
conduct the study you are proposing. You may want to research a study of similar scope either at Montana Tech
or elsewhere to see what kind of budget may be needed. Cite your sources.
You may use one or more tables to provide estimated budget information. Be sure to caption any illustrations
according to the rules you learned in MA-3.
3.3 Project Schedule
Assuming a team of students will have 10 weeks in the Fall Semester 2018 to complete the study you propose,
provide a schedule including dates and milestones that you recommend they follow. You may want to present
this information in a Gantt chart with a sentence or two introducing it.
NOTE: The sample sections below are from a research proposal that aimed to find
out the most important considerations of professional employers when interviewing
newly-graduated engineers. There is not an exact example provided for this section.
Please review the instructions above carefully and rely on those to determine what to
include in your own proposal section 3.
