Topic and Questions We Can Help You To Answer
Paper Instructions:
My philosophy of education is that rules will always change, and so I focus less on knowing the tax rules than on being aware of larger current events influencing society and the world of business.
One such current event is a Supreme Court decision called Wayfair, named after a dispute between a state and the internet company Wayfair, which sells furniture. Although technically this topic does not belong in our course, which focuses on personal income taxes, this is an important current event that you should know about as an educated person.
Please read the attached Wall Street Journal editorial (August 12, 2019), and answer the following questions. Please feel free to supplement it with your own research, but please cite and reference your sources properly.
1. Your Dad asks you: What is Wayfair, a furniture retailer or a tax rule? Please answer in 50 words (you are addressing your Dad, who works as a school-teacher, not your accountant-boss).
2. Do you agree with the Wayfair decision? Why or why not? You do not need to agree with the Wall Street Journal, which is a “pro-business” newspaper.
