The main goal of a business is to utilize resources available to make profits for the business owners and to remain competitive, firm must have strategies that will enhance their performance. To be sustainable in terms of market competitiveness, the strategies formulated must produce superior value and at the same time containing the costs involved (Rothaermel, 2015). Still, with profit in minds, organizational leaders have to learn on how to attain a balance between the shareholders and the responsibilities to the societies in which they operate. The major social responsibility for a firm is to use resources through engagement with activities aimed at maximizing profits but at the same time articulating the set social values and behaviors expected by the society. It is important for managers at Merck to always uphold the social concerns and understand that the business’s operations are not carried out in a rational market since many a times; the perception of the public is real. The firm needs to operate in such a way that, the strategy adopted creates superior value for shareholders (Rothaermel, 2015). The provision of drugs to high end market and using the resources to cater for medical needs of the impoverished people should be balanced. This is because in the present times, choosing to blindly pursue profit maximization only will ultimately lead to poor performance, but a focus on social responsibility must not override the shareholders interests.
The firm managers should be smart and consider what impact their strategic decisions will have on the organization. The firm has to adopt a new game plan that will allow it to be intelligent in navigation of the present market place (Corkery, Mikalsen & Allan, 2017). To balance the two tradeoffs, Kersck managers should consider the effect of negative publicity brought about by a focus on shareholders only. While focusing on the affluent customers in the, market may make sense, in terms of shareholders’ value, any arising negative publicity may lead to demonization and hence the destruction of long-term value for the firm. The shareholders would be served effectively by leaders who consider the nature of the present market and make strategic decisions on the basis of such information (Corkery, Mikalsen & Allan, 2017). The consideration of the poor in the community can also work to the advantage of the firm since it will influence the perception of the public about the brand. In cases where the affluent market segment cannot access the disadvantaged in the society, the public is likely to associate themselves with the philanthropic activities that Merck engages in and therefore, enhance its image. The firm needs adopt a social purpose that is sustainable and which is inherently linked to the major objectives that have been set.
Sustainability is important because for an organization to continue with its activities related to social needs; their operations must provide enough resources that are needed to provide the social services (Corkery, Mikalsen & Allan, 2017). This means that profits earned should be enough to cater for the social need activities that a firm engages in. The profitability should be sustainable so that enough resources are attained to continue with Merck’s programs of providing drug donations to people who cannot afford. The strategy that the firm should implement must align the social purpose with the interests of shareholders. The social purpose must be credible, and brands should consider how skills and values can cater for the society needs and at the same time, ensuring that the idea us economically sustainable. The major driver for the social purpose must be a strategy that also acts as the brand’s purpose pillar and the entire business unit should be built on it. The strategy will provide a reason for consumers to believe in the brand and this belief will largely create powerful advocacy and loyalty (Williams & Scott, 2012). Merck will demonstrate a connection that is emotionally weak and one that is more resilient to the market competition.
Having a social purpose offers an integral and more beneficial basis of existence, and the leaders business organizations can avert the need for defensive and create public trust. By doing this Merck will have taken important steps towards enhancing profitability of the firm and avoid any cases of conflict with authorities or the community. The strategy for social purpose should find a balance in meeting the needs of customers and shareholders and engaging in a course that will make the world a better place especially for the vulnerable members in the society. Companies that enjoy the biggest success in terms of longevity and profit sustainability are those that realize that profitability and a purpose other than shareholder interest are absolutely necessary (Williams & Scott, 2012). Understanding the strength of this relationship is important for managers. The understanding involves a focus on social responsibility has a long-term bearing on the financial success of the firm and leaders have communicate to the shareholders and other stakeholders about the strategy. A gap should not exist between understanding the need for a social purpose and real action on the same (Williams & Scott, 2012). Sustainable profitability should consider a culture of social giving that is put into actions.
Bible verses
There are four Bible verses that highlights the need for taking care of the poor in the society and that promises great heavenly awards on those who do so. Ephesians 4:28 indicates the need for a person to engage in honest work so that he may have smoothing he can share with those in need. The work one does must be honest so that one has no qualm giving out (The Holy Bible). Having an honest income allows a Christian to freely share their earnings with people who are not able to support themselves or provide their own basic needs (Smith, 2013). Though the verse immediately addresses people who steal, the advice by Paul is applicable to every Christian. By working hard, a Christian is able to earn enough resources to help those in need regardless of the means (Smith, 2013). The main message highlighted in the verse is that main reason Christian should work is not only to care for them, but to meet the needs of others who are not able to work, or whose work does not sustain them.
Proverbs 19:17 highlight that those who generously provide to the poor lend to God and they will receive repayment from him for their actions (The Holy Bible). Christians have the obligation to help the poor and this will receive Divine acknowledgment. Any help that is genuinely offered to those who are needy is a load to God and He will surely repay it (Smith, 2013). This verse is corroborated by Luke 6:38, where Jesus teaches that the measure one gives with will determine how much he will receive from God. For those who give more, a good measure will be used to determine their blessings so that they overflow. Those who want to succeed in various aspects of life must learn to give genuinely. In a society that makes people to be self-centered and to be in constant pursuit for personal gain, it is easy to be insensitive to people who are less advantaged and unable to meet their basic needs. Humans live in a social union state that makes it necessary to offer mutual assistance. They can easily be entangled in self-interest and self-absorption especially in their trading activities or commerce that they neglect their fellow humans who are really suffering due to poverty (Craig, 2008).
A person who is open to the needy will find others who will deal well with them especially in cases where they are in need. A person with no kindness as his or her character will find it hard in his endeavors to attain what he want by dealing with others. The clowning Verse is Hebrews 13:16 that reminds Christians no to neglect good actions and sharing what they have since these sacrifices pleases the Lord (The Holy Bible). Christians must use their financial power to meet the necessities of human’s bodies and soul’s, and such will be accepted by God with much pleasure. It calls for liberality to people who are in want and deciding not to forget that this is their duty responsibility. Humans are constantly prone to considering their individual interests or those of their businesses and forgetting the responsibility to alleviate the suffering of others (Craig, 2008).
Christian perspective of ethical issues
In line with what is expected of Christians, businesses or companies must provide an account in the society especially in regard to dealing with those who are less fortunate. Merck decision to provide drugs to those in the society who cannot afford is a major step towards fulfilling their duty to the poor. The social responsibility of the company should stem from the understanding their role in relation to the larger community and the understanding that shareholders expect good performance or returns (Rumambi, & Marentek, 2015). The basic point to note in this case is that for the firm to be able to give to the society, it must have sufficient resources that will cater for the shareholders interests and care for the needy. This is in line with Ephesians 4:28 that call for engaging in honest work to earn something with which to help others in the society. The strategy adopted by leaders should ensure that the performance of the firm in terms of profitability is enhanced. The strategy should be based on the need for solidarity, where the firm will be devoted to the common good of each party, the shareholders and the community in which it operates (Rumambi, & Marentek, 2015). There should be humanism in the entrepreneurial operations of the Merck, in that while focusing on provision of drugs to the affluent in the society, a focus on the poor should not be viewed as a departure from the organizational goal. The need to ensure the interests of the owners are prioritized cannot be overstated, but ignoring the plight of the society goes against the Christian spirit of giving to the needy and accepting nothing in return.
The shareholders are people who have been blessed with an opportunity or position for creating social benefits and hence, as Christians they should consider the plight of the needy and poor members of the society (Rumambi, & Marentek, 2015). The role of the Merck leaders is to communicate to shareholders about the need to uphold their need to share the profits of the organization with the poor people, who lack the opportunity to earn sufficient income to afford the drugs. As a Christian entrepreneur, the owners are called upon to actively be engaged in activities or initiatives that are aimed at improving the welfare of the poor especially their health. The benefits of engaging in such initiatives will be achieved if they are carried out genuinely and while they may not be quantified in terms of money, the image of the organization will be enhanced among other public members. The impulse behind such actions will be in line with Biblical teaching of lending to the poor , which means lending to the lord , and benefits will be gained in due time.
The true aim of having a social purpose in business strategy should maintain in view; not the establishment of a better kingdom in this world, but to strive in integrating Christian values in business. Through this, one is not promoting a kingdom not of this earth by making authentic contribution towards alleviating poverty or mitigating it to say the least and build a better world (Teck Hui, 2008). The philanthropic activities of a business based on Christian values should not follow the pattern of secular humanism so as not to lose touch with the basic Christian faith. The plan should be practical and even though it may appear rather negative or pessimistic, it is done with the understanding that only God truly lift all human from poverty. With the understanding that sustainability of a firm’s profitability is essential to serving shareholders interests, working towards maximum performance of the firm should be emphasized (Young, 2013). The improved performance of the firm is the major goal of any organization, but the efforts directed at this cause should consider that biblical teaching of receiving with same measure that a person uses when giving to others. To provide for the poor in the society, consumption of resources by business owners should be limited to what is necessary so that resources are availed to fulfill the duty of serving the needs of others. Having a social purpose requires restraining the impulses to recklessly pursue individual sensory gratification, so that one can get the power and freedom to sacrifice resources for a social course. Pursuing good works for the society requires sacrifices for the business owners or shareholders (Teck Hui, 2008). Of more importance is seeking to cure the root cause of poverty and suffering of the needy, empowering them so that they can fend for themselves.
Therefore, from a Christian perspective, balancing the shareholders responsibilities and donation for treating river blindness among the poor African communities requires a departure from solely focusing on profitability. While a focus on affluent society segment of the market will improve the profitability of the Merck, ignoring the plight of the sick and poor communities will against the Christian spirit of caring for others. Giving from a Christian perspective is genuine if it is not done while expecting worldly payback. Having a strategy integrated with a social purpose will enable the firm attain the right balance and solve arising challenges.

Work layout, furniture, radiation, lighting, ventilation, equipment design, space, radiation, noise, quality of air, age, noise, building design are some of the physical elements that should be taken into consideration in a working environment. Even though it may sound not important working in dim or overbright light reduces productivity as it strains the employees. Studies have found that low levels of lights, can even cause depression in employees, which is severe.
Noise could also once again be thought of a simple distraction, but can cause defects such as irreversible ear damage. If it impairs communication between employers in the work place noises like high volume alarms could be very dangerous, as miscommunication led to fatal accidents.
Ventilation is one another important aspect. Without adequate ventilation employees are exposed to harmful fumes and dust. This could result in diseases such as cystic fibrosis, which are very severe and patients end up being in a lung transplant list. Ignoring the minute workplace safety rules ends up being disastrous full for their employees. Similarly, in case poisonous fumes are used, it is essential to apply protective techniques when employees are to be exposed to them

Agile organizations focus on product design, information technology, corporate partners and knowledge culture which all play a significant role in producing high quality products and satisfying consumers (Hormoze, 2001, p. 133). Due to the ever-changing market, the pillars help the organizations adapt to the changes. The employees’ intellectual power, the product-development teams, goal setting, flexible management and smooth flow of information play a significant role in creating competitive advantage and maintaining a competitive edge (Hormoze, 2001, p. 133). The principles of Agile manufacturing are as follows;
Customer prosperity
Customer prosperity is an important principle which means that the agile organizations should manufacture products and services of high value. Even though the World class manufacturers maintains a strong relationship with customer, customer prosperity in agile manufacturing means that products and services produced should add value to the consumers (Maskell , 2001, p. 7). In other words, the organization should have a detailed and a thorough understanding of the customers’ needs and wants, and ensure that the products and services satisfy the consumers. Other point to note is that organization should design products that meet the customer’s requirements and this can be done by using Computer Aided Design where customers, corporate partners and suppliers will co-operate in manufacturing products that will meet the customer needs (Maskell, 2001, p. 7).
People and information
People and information are an integral part since they provide the organization with skills and knowledge in the product manufacturing, customers’ needs and service requirements. In order to meet the customers’ needs, there should a relationship between customers and organization’s people and this will foster customer awareness (Maskell, 2001, p. 8). There should also be knowledge-based system where organization will derive product information, product upgrades, analysis and other relevant information needed by authorized users. The company’s information system such as internet will allow the customers to place orders, specify their needs and in turn, the organization will access the information and meet the needs (Maskell, 2001, p. 7).
Co-operation
Co-operation in agile manufacturing is an important principle which means that organization should cooperate with other firms to gain skills and knowledge in order to meet the customer’s needs. There are various ever-changing needs in the competitive market and co-operation will provide organization with a great deal of information based on product design, special skills and more (Maskell, 2001, p. 9). Information technologies such as internet and multi-lingual system connect the company with other firms where they communicate and help each other in meeting the customers’ needs.
Fitness for change
Change is inevitable in modern markets and agile manufacturing should be ready for change in order to meet the customers’ needs. When organization is forced to make changes, it should effectively adapt to the changes and quickly recover from the disruption. Agile organization should also consider reorganizing the structure and the process should require management skills, effective decision making, highly skilled workforce, effective leadership and trust (Maskell, 2001, p. 10). In making change, agile organization should make a clear vision, mission and goals of the company.
By comparison, lean and agile manufacturing focus on increasing sustainability and revenue and creating a competitive position in the market. Maskel asserts that for a company to become an agile manufacturing, it should have already existed as a lean manufacturing. This creates a comparison in that lean manufacturing focus on customer, cost maximization and just-in-time operations to ensure customers’ needs are met. Similarly, agile manufacturing puts customer first and treat them as individual, focus on product, knowledge culture and more in order to meet the needs of customers and maintain the competitive edge. However, Maskell states that the difference between lean and agile manufacturing is that the latter performs role that every organization can control but the former moves beyond this and performs roles that organization cannot control (Maskell, 2001, p. 8). In other words, agile manufacturing allows the organization to thrive and prosper in the midst of changing environment and unpredictable change. Unlike lean manufacturing that focus on cost maximization, price flexibility and higher inventory, agile manufacturing focus on factors such as unpredictable change and for this reason, it focus on low volume but high quality products and specific products that meet the different customers’ needs. Agile manufacturing uses a low inventory for modular construction and product customization. To put it clear, agile manufacturing understands the changing customer demands and it quickly and effectively respond to the demand (Richards, 1993, p. 63).
Observational analysis
Retail operation
On observational analysis, the main activities in retail operations are based on day-to-day functions and the main objective is to maximize profits and this is achieved through offering high quality products and services to the customers. The retail operation has strategies that help maximize profit and these include understanding the customer-this means that this retail operation targets females as it sells women’s clothing. The retail operation has a strong relationship with its customers and it offers personalized offers, special rewards, discounts and more. On the transformational processes, the high level of competition and unpredictable change forces the retail operation to have an input-transformation in order implement an output model. This means that in order to meet the different needs and wants of consumers, the retail operation brings resources needed in producing quality products to its customers (Richards, 1993, p. 61). From the observation, the retail operation makes the transformation process by focusing of functional-level- teams and managers create objectives and understand their responsibility. The retail operation also focuses on operational planning-analysis of human resources. Finally, on adaptive capacities, the retail operation has a business model adaptation that makes the organization become alert and proactive. For example, the observation helps understand that the retail operation has multiplexity which means that there is a cross-functional activities which foster knowledge sharing and combinative capabilities thereby increasing the adaptive capacity. Second, it has resource redundancy which increases management attention, innovation and experimentation. Last, it uses loose coupling which minimizes mistakes and increases knowledge assimilation (Richards, 1993, p. 61).
Agile Manufacturing principles have great applicability in both the activities that I observed and those I didn’t. In the observable activities, the principles such as enriching the customers are applicable for the retail operation to meet the needs and wants of the customers. People and information is also applicable in that the retail operation needs to know more on customer awareness, product upgrades as well as specification (Maskell, 2001, p. 7). The principles are also applicable to the activities which I didn’t see. For instance, I cannot tell whether the retail operation has partnering firms but the principle is applicable for the business to gain special skills needed in the ever-changing market. The principle of fitness for change is also applicable since organization structure need to be changed to fit the ever-changing needs (Maskell, 2001, p. 8).

To investigate the trafficking crime from an international dimension by focusing on the effects of the Palermo convention in combating the crime.
To analyse how Jordan is performing in respect to the implementation, and enforcements of the Palermo Convention.
Research Objectives
The following research aims at achieving the following objectives:
To investigate the international instruments and conventions adopted by UK Government to combat crimes of human trafficking in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland;
To point out the extent to which these international conventions and instruments have been aided and implemented in addressing human trafficking issue in the United Kingdom, and Jordan;
To investigate the various forms of the crime(human trafficking) and determine how it happens in the United Kingdom and gather data on the same;
To analyze the trends in human trafficking from Jordan to the United Kingdom by looking at the reported conviction rates and the effectiveness of the ratified strategies by the United Kingdom Government.
To determine how the trafficked humans are protected by the government of United Kingdom, and Jordan as well as the effect of human trafficking on Jordanian emigrant population.
Research Questions
In achieving the objectives and the aims of the research, the study sort to answer the following stated research questions
What are the international conventions and instruments signed and ratified by the United Nations in order to combat crimes of human trafficking in Jordan?
To what extent have these international conventions and instruments been effective in addressing crimes of human trafficking in the United Kingdom?
What are the different forms and nature of human trafficking crimes in Jordan?
To what extent is the government of Jordan responsible for human trafficking in its territory?
What are the trends of human trafficking from Jordan to the UK and what is the frequency of the phenomena and How does the human trafficking occur in the UK and are trafficked humans protected by the government of the UK?
2. Methodology
Proper and appropriate research methodologies are crucial for any research (Kumar, 2005 p.6).
Human rights discussions have been a global discussion in the past and many countries globally have developed unique strategies to address the issue. International treaties have been one approach to addressing the global vice. The following research paper will, therefore, focus on the Palermo protocol that was formulated by the UN to address the role played by various international treaties and organizations in curbing the vice.
The research study will, therefore, adopt the methodology of briefly discussing the Palermo protocol, its history and role and also the enactment purpose of the protocol. In addition, the protocols attribute to curbing the human right issue will be reviewed.
Since the following research aims to examine and critically examine human trafficking in the case example of Jordan and establish United Kingdom’s role in combating and curbing the crime through the use and approach of the international instruments and conventions, and this is a legal research, legal texts and laws are also analyzed for the research.
The methodology used for the research paper involves a critical review and analysis of scholarly researchers that exist on the topic. International and treaty laws that exist were reviewed through the use of historical resources and also the Palermo convention is examined. The research study involves the study of different national legislations using resources such as the UNODC. The following methodology step was the analysis of case examples from different countries presenting the findings for discussion and further analysis for the comparison and finally examining the effects of the Palermo convention in combating human trafficking crimes in the United Kingdom and in the kingdom of Jordan.
In the research study, secondary data is obtained and used. In the literature review, secondary data is used in obtaining the information on human trafficking. Policies, strategies and the laws on human trafficking crimes were studied by analyses of secondary sources.
A qualitative approach is used for the research where important sources that are secondary are used to extract the information on the topic of the research (Maxwell, 2012 p.21). A quantitative approach was also applicable as data from secondary sources on the trafficking of humans is analyzed.
Research Design
For the research investigated, a research design lays a blueprint and a framework for the data and information gathering. The research design adopted for the following research is the review of literature from acknowledged sources and a case investigated of Jordan human trafficking, an example case in the UK is used.
An exploratory research design is used as human trafficking information is obtained and explored in the literature review section. The descriptive research design was also used in the research as descriptive information is identified by the use of the example of human trafficking case in Jordan.
Since the research will use secondary sources such as books and journals for information the research design is normative and subjective and therefore the findings and the arguments are not based on empirical research design.
Data Collection and Sampling Technique
The research study utilizes secondary data from sources such as journals, articles, and books on the Jordan human trafficking and the government's effort in combating the crime.
In data collection for the research, primary data is also used. This is through analysis of the Palermo conventions and legislation on the human trafficking laws.
Reasoning from the case example, the Jordan human trafficking and the resulting findings that have been reported in the research and also the recommendations made are not a development of new rules or laws.
In sampling technique for the research study, relevant sources are selected for the study and the literature review made from the relevant sources.
Data collection technique
Since the data used for the research is from both primary and secondary sources, various debates, inquiries on human trafficking and previous research reports will be collected for the study. Data is collected from secondary sources such as journals and previous studies.
The research is carried out in Jordan and the UK as the aim is examining the Jordan human trafficking and the United Kingdom's efforts to combat the trafficking through use of international conventions and instruments. As such the Palermo protocol is studied and analyzed.
Data analysis
In analysing data, the data is categorized to concepts and the concepts are explained on how they relate to one another by the connection of the data obtained.
Research Ethics and Considerations
In research, when people are used as participants in the studies, research ethics focuses on the ethical issues that may arise in the research process. Research ethics ensure standards are maintained high when the research involves people for example in collecting data from them. As such ethics ensure the human participants are protected and the research serves the interest of the people and those research activities are well managed for their ethical soundness thus issues like confidentiality and participant's consents are ensured (Resnik, 2015 p.8).
Research ethics, therefore, refers to conducting the research in a morally right concept. Some ethical standards may well fit into a group and fail to in another group and therefore an ethical framework in research ensures ethical behaviours can well be determined by a group.
In the following research study, ethical standards were followed and strictly adhered to. The literature review section and the research in totality ensured no plagiarism from the previous studies and researchers.
Since the research is on sensitive human topic, and human beings are considered in the study, the selected case examples and the countries are well researched in the research paper to ensure sources of the information is well acknowledged and moral standards are well maintained to standards.
Research Goals
The main goal of the following research study is to examine and critically examine human trafficking in the case of Jordan and establish United Kingdom's role in combating and curbing the crime through the use and approach of the international instruments and conventions. The goal is achieved by critically analyzing the existing literature on human trafficking in Jordan and examining the available research papers on the case.
In reference to the main goal, the research will also seek to achieve the following additional goals;
To examine the existing human trafficking laws in Jordan
Identify the gaps in the laws, its implementation, consistency, and stability.
To recommend reforms of the human trafficking laws so as to address the gaps and better address the menace of human trafficking.
Knowledge Contribution
With the main objective and goal of the research being to investigate the Jordan human trafficking phenomena in the UK and the role of the UK government in combating the crime through international conventions and instruments, an in-depth analysis of the phenomena will be conducted by use of existing literature and previous research studies available.
As such, the research paper will address and answer the research questions and finally, the objectives and the aims of the research will be achieved. By the research identifying the gaps that exist in the research literature, more understanding on the gaps that exist on the human trafficking laws will contribute to the knowledge by recommending reforms.
Through the findings of the research and through the wide applicability of the findings, the human trafficking phenomena can better be addressed and better instruments can be adapted to combat the crime not only in Jordan but globally.
Limitation of the study
The study is limited by the complexity and sensitivity of the human trafficking topic.
There are scanty information and data on the actual and the real number of victims of the human trafficking crime and therefore most researchers make their finding from estimates of previous studies (Goodey, 2008 p.16). This is because real victims of the trafficking crime fear taking surveys for they fear victimization (Askola 2005 p.8).
Also, comparing laws from Jordan and the United Kingdom is complex as they both have different legal systems. However, the comparison is made possible by comparing common ant trafficking laws like the Palermo conventions.
Working Plan
Without any doubt, data analysis is the most essential phase in any qualitative project. The data analysis procedure to be adopted by this research paper includes categorization of the data into concepts and connection of the data to demonstrate how a particular concept relates to another. The researcher will also corroborate and evaluate the alternative explanations that have been provided by the participants and then represent the findings. The rate of veteran unemployment has been declining with time as many military veterans find jobs in governmental organizations and private firms. The decline can be attributed to a commitment by many companies to hire the veterans especially the young ones leaving the military service. The veterans face challenges while trying to fit into the civilian work environment and corporate managers find it hard to retain these employees due to culture change. The first article shows that unemployment is declining as it is easy to hire veteran employees but retaining them becomes a challenge and many leave their first jobs. The second article explores the declining unemployment among veterans and how they are adjusting to the civilian workforce. The third article described the reducing veteran unemployment and how managers should retain these skills in their organizations.
Article 1
The Wall Street Journal article shows how it is easy to hire military veterans but hard to keep them. After business started accepting the call to employ over a million United States veterans, they are left are struggling with the new challenge of retaining them. The various initiatives by large firms that have assisted in reducing the unemployment level among young veterans by almost 4.7 percent have not helped these on how to operate civilian or private field (Fuhrmans, 2017). Most of the veterans experience challenges when transiting to civilian careers and normally get into jobs with little returns and experience culture clash in the new working environments. These individuals also struggle in translating their learned military skills into the business world. The veterans delay before finding meaningful employment and those entering the job market do not stay for long and employers incur high turnover-costs (Fuhrmans, 2017).
A major reason the given is that some employers do not understand how they can utilize the skills of these veterans despite their desire to hire them. Even the high-paying jobs can turn off the veterans who feel that their employers are not taking advantage of the skills they possess. The military career has taught them to fix problems whenever they see it, but in the corporate world, such opportunities are rarely provided. Some firms have chosen to adjust their strategies for hiring veterans so as to ease their entry especially those entering civilian jobs for the first time. For instance, J.P Morgan Chase & Co has a pilot project – Pathfinder – whose focus is pairing new recruits with veterans that have more experience to offer guidance through areas where support is needed (Fuhrmans, 2017). PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP program involves coaching using checklists similar to quality control frameworks, which also train personnel manager on challenges veterans encounter and how to handle them. This system has helped many veterans to retain their jobs in comparison to just about 20 percent that was previously staying one year or more. Mentoring of veterans and having a strong network will help them not only get quality jobs but also keep such jobs (Fuhrmans, 2017).
Article 2
The article highlights the decline in the rate of unemployment among the veterans and how these individuals adjust to the civilian working environment. The unemployment levels among veterans who have been in services in the era after 9/11 was 5.8 percent by 2015 in comparison to 1.4 percent in the previous year (Strauss, 2017). Despite the decrease in the rate of unemployment, the veterans face some challenges as they transit from military services to the civilian job market. The major reasons the veterans have declined or failed to go after some positions while looking for work are disappointments on salaries and benefits granted, and lack of sufficient education or training to do the work. While this may surprise other job-seekers, the veterans were used to receiving benefits such as housing and adjusting to such expenses may take them some time (Strauss, 2017).
In addition, other veterans joined the military services with no college degrees and this may cause problems when evaluating job offers where such qualifications are needed. However, the experience acquired in military service may not be directly equal to job requirements but can offer skills basically attained during college education. The veterans also normally lack the confidence to sell them during a job interview, since such practices are not needed in military services. In addition, hiring managers lack an understanding of the experience earned by the veteran in the military and how their skills can be transferred to the corporate world (Strauss, 2017). In a survey, 37 percent of participants felt that their military experience was undervalued by the hiring managers which can be attributed to employers' failure use similar criteria to people with college education. Among those who found work, majority faced few opportunities for advancement; others felt they did less meaningful jobs in comparison to military jobs and others field overqualified for positions offered. To be positive about the civilian workforce, the jobs they get have to stir their passions and allow them to advance which requires learning how to networking with mentors and peers. Employers have to learn how veteran experience can be translated into skills necessary in civilian workforce (Strauss, 2017).
Article 3
The article explores the better ways in which veteran employees can be retained in a company. According to the author, there are many individuals who are living the military every year with the majority of them looking for meaningful work. The unemployment level has declined over time as many veterans find jobs in governmental organizations and corporate firms partly due to initiatives like Veterans Employment Initiatives and Hiring Our Heroes (Watson et al. 2017). Many corporate employers have accepted the call to reduce veteran unemployment but despite such efforts, almost half of these employees decline their initial post-military positions each year. In addition, just about 2 out of 10 will stick to such positions for over two years. The major reasons veterans give for leaving such positions include meaningless work, not having career advancement, few opportunities for professional development and different work culture. This means that a major cause of unemployment among veterans is leaving such jobs and difficulties employers' face in retaining the veterans. The veterans are required to dramatically change in terms of habits, practices, expectations, and terminology since they are used to the corporate language, they may appear less competent and managers may find it hard to connect with them (Watson et al. 2017).
In order to retain the veteran employees, they need to have strategies that address their needs for training, growth, and inclusion. The managers should embark on educating the people involved including leaders, managers and even recruiters about the military culture. By learning the military culture, they are able to anticipate communication and language gaps and then come up with effective means of reaching common ground (Watson et al. 2017). They will also learn how to design program for integration and on-boarding that are aimed all veterans. This also involves assisting veterans in building and sustaining connections with others within an organization and looking for ways to connect daily tasks to the general purpose. The firms need to effectively integrate veteran employees into corporate life, with the major point being a focus on open and honest communication about the existing gap between civilian culture and military culture. The workplace should not make veterans under transition feel that they are a burden to the organization and managers having false assumptions about such employees (Watson et al. 2017).
Conclusion
The declining rate of unemployment among veterans can be attributed increased employment by private firms and governmental organizations. Some employees are unable to find job opportunities immediately to after leaving military service because they lack confidence on how to sell their skills as a civilian workforce. The various initiatives established have enabled most of the veterans to find work in the private sector, but almost half of them do not keep such positions. They find that the private sector has a different working environment which makes their transition process difficult and they opt to leave. The veterans feeling of meaningless roles, undervaluation of their skills by employers, lack of opportunities for advancement in career and culture clash are the major reasons for not keeping their positions. For managers to retain these employees, they should learn how to utilize veterans' skills in their workplace and provide an environment that encourages employees' growth and development. Closing the language and communication gap among between the veterans and employers should be the focus of hiring organization.

Contract negotiation is common in the business world, which involves giving and taking so that an agreement can be reached (Ward, 2012). In typical negotiations, all the involved parties must compromise on certain issues so that benefits can be obtained in equal measure. However, it is worth noting that not only business negotiations leads to winning since if an agreement cannot be achieved or when one party is required to sacrifice not only its focus but wellness then the offer can be rejected during the negotiation process (Staff, 2017). To begin with, as a sales manager the business offer that has been proposed is a positive one because it mainly seeks to offer the hotel a more strategic positioning in the market but the possess some risks as well as benefits for the company. In order to meet the objective of maximizing the earnings of the company’s shareholders in terms of revenue certain clauses have to be re-negotiated such as complimentary rooms, food and beverages and additional concessions.
Similar to other companies in the hotel industry, the hotel bosses are interested in expanding their market share for greater revenue gains as well as strategically positioning the company competitively. If some clauses are not re-negotiated then the company will not be acquiring any sort of value from the business (Staff, 2017). To begin with, the group needs to acquire quality and unique services that not only meet their expectations but also considers the set budget based value. Therefore for the preservations of the accommodation, food and meeting facilities to be made adhering to these sets then there is a need to reconsider the clauses. The outcome of the negotiation and agreement as it stands currently is not desirable. The company is not willing to give up its objectives but focused on enhancing its services in general.
The clause that the group will be paying for a specific money set for the food and beverages needs to be reexamined. This is because the group should pay for the products based on consumption since the attendance rate might differ. If the attendance is high then the consumption of food and the needed services is also high which means that higher payment is needed. This will subject the hotel at a greater loss since there is no revenue that will be gained and this might, in turn, affect the quality of the offered services and products. This will automatically affect satisfaction and motivation for both of the involved parties. The reasonable value must be created at all times. The company has certain disadvantages that hinder it from taking the deal without making some adjustments to the stated clauses. Operating expenses is the main disadvantage of the hotel that it seeks to lower throughout its operations in order to ensure that the investors are satisfied. However, the issue of focusing on quality cannot be ignored since the group is more interested in it as well as customer satisfaction (Staff, 2017). It is not easy to build good relationships with the consumers if their expectations and needs are not met fully.
Additional concessions are something that should be reexamined. This is because the company is already provided services that are characterized by affordable cost which means that by offering more discounts then losses might be experienced. The hotel industry has been subjected to intense competition in the most recent years which have thus forced companies to adopt different measures to sustain their competitive positioning while growing both their shares in the industry and revenue (Ward, 2012). The hotel is mainly influenced by cost leadership even though it offers quality and premium products and services. This means that it offers the least prices in the market and it cannot, therefore, afford to operate under further discounts. Since running a hotel is expensive and the set cost for commodities is low if the prices are reduced further, this implies that the company will not be generating any revenue. The group needs quality services and the company needs to enhance its revenue gain so that it can support its operations and sustain business even in challenging times (Ward, 2012). The company, in other words, cannot offer further concessions but the services and food provided are guaranteed to be of the utmost quality.
In other words, the offer can be turned down during the negotiation period if the group does not comprise of such things. This is because despite the fact that the company must guard its market it cannot afford to take losses as being competitive is all about being about to generate adequate revenue in the competitive market. However, if the group is will reexamine the clauses to ensure that their needs are met and the company does not incur losses then the hotel will take the deal. The best time to reject the business is during the negotiation since the company will not have signed the contract that highlights expectations from each group.
