Managing Communication
The chapter defines communication as the process of exchanging ideas and information where the parties involved understands each other with the aim of motivating or influencing behavior. Communication is the most essential way of promoting success in all organization. Communication is mainly carried out by managers either online, face to face or on telephone since managers ensure that employees get the directions for them to achieve the set goals and objectives in that organization (Daft, 2015). In an organization, managers act like communication champions since they engage all employees and ensure communication is made effective. There are different models of communication with both focusing on the sender and the receiver. The sender should ensure information reaches the intended receiver in good time and the right channel followed.
Communication is enhanced when people follow a certain procedure. For example people encourage open communication since it ensures people remain honest. Many communication channels should be used since they ensure communication remains effective. Communication need to be fit in the organizations organizational culture so as to promote openness and honesty (Daft, 2015). Communication among different people is made open so that people can share ideas within the organization. Open communication takes place in two forms namely centralized network and decentralized network where members communicate freely with each other and with the leaders.
Communication channels should be well chosen by the managers since the channels have both advantages and disadvantages therefore managers should ensure they follow the richest channel. Communication should be well effective such that managers should influence employees and ensure employees do not fear communicating with them. Employees should ask questions for clarification since it creates trust and openness between them and the managers (Daft, 2015). Managers should listen to their employees as well as customers since feedback from customers is important. Effective communication entails use of social media, verbal communication which should be enhanced in the work place. Communication is the best tool during crisis within the organization in order to ensure crises are solved and success is enhanced within the organization.
