Research papers should further develop one of the themes or topics of the course using both assigned readings and additional materials.  Choose any example of culture in motion across, into, and/or out of East Asia.  Focus on some specific cultural material (such as a text, image, recording, film, artwork, performance, food item, etc.) as your primary source(s).  Analyze this material within its historical context to explain its significance as an example of cultural exchange
