This case MUST be submitted in a Word document. Your Exhibits should be in an Excel spreadsheet, but that is not required.

Develop a five-year strategic plan with cost estimates and a time line. It should be 5-7 double-spaced, typed (12 point) pages plus exhibits. Your plan should include/address the following points:

Describe the situation facing Missouri Can Company (MCC) at the time of the case. This should include the major issues facing the company and the decisions that need to be made. You are to spend no time on corporate history. You must consider the past, but your analysis and recommendations should be forward looking.
List your specific recommendations for the firm in detail. Analyze and address all four divisions. Explain why each recommendation was made including the information used and the logic (or analysis) applied to reach your conclusion. In Class we were given this prompt to do:

"This is a personal exercise in sustainability awareness.  You are going to think of 12 places you can make your life a bit more sustainable, and try to do them at least for 2 weeks.  Environmental sustainability changes (4) are easy; carpooling, turning of lights, unplugging computers, not idling your car unnecessarily, public transport, better recycling, choosing the second hand alternative,  organic food, food sourcing for local (low transport costs) over imported, and so on.  Some of these also point to economic sustainability because they can also save you money (water bill, electric bill, gasoline, if you pay for these), but you may wish to focus on other economic sustainability issues as well. No double dipping.

Even taking new moves to get more exercise could count as economic sustainability because improved health translates into increased earning potential. Improving financial literacy, changing where you have your money, spending less, making more, saving, buying second hand, all sustains you economically.

Last is social sustainability; maybe follow up on some networking that may serve you later, or help a neighbor, assist another student with homework or be a good listener, make new or renew contacts on LinkedIn or Facebook (but you must stay why these links enhance social sustainability) or investigate and comment on a company's efforts to be socially responsible (most big companies have a social responsibility desk).  You get the picture.  Think outside the box and lets see who can do the best job!  Make sure you can actually do these things you list, because later you will be doing them. You are allowed one change"

At a basic level, management has three elements (page 28):  Inputs, Process, and Output.  Input would be the goals embraced in 12 changes, and the resources one can marshal to do so (example; car-pooling needs social networks), then there is the process whereby the changes are made, always a balance of effectiveness and efficiency (e.g. the case of shower time; it must be sufficient to effectively wash the body parts in question, while seeking efficiency through not wasting water); then, based in the tension between effectiveness (got clean) and efficiency (saved water) is PERFORMANCE,  how well the management process worked.  Each manager judges the other's performance and has their performance judged too.  But the strong assessment of the other, as their manager, looks at all of this.  Were the goals realistic and well thought out?  Were the person's resources adequate to achieve the goal?  How did they deal with the tension between efficiency and effectiveness?  How did both of these and the goals/resources lead to the particular outcome on the 12 points?  Would other goals have resulted in better outcomes?  Are some outcomes more significant for the person, for the immediate community, for the planet than others?  What can the person under your management learn from this, and you?  What would make some of these 12 doable for more than a week or two--to be truly sustainable?  How has it built "social capital" or other forms of value that are lasting, should they be kept up over time?  What, in short, would you as a manager recommend be changed in your employee's approach to the exercise, to get the best outcome?

your task is to reflect on my friends work of the dirty dozen.Your job is to read my friends dirty dozen and reflect on it base on these question below. the prompt above was just for your understanding on what is the dirty dozen. Please be honest of my friends work if it is bad just say its bad and how can they improve on it. i will attach my friends dirty dozen and please reflect on it.Some of his dirty dozen might not make sense and you have to state it and give a reason why it doesn't make sense or if it is wrong. please reflect on all 12

The questions are:

Cause and Effect Analysis and Problem Restatement

Purpose

To assess your ability to:
employ a cause and effect diagram (also referred to as a fishbone diagram) for identification of root problem cause and effect elements
clarify a problem statement through application of restatement techniques

Overview

A key element of effective decision making is ensuring a problem statement truly reflects the full scope and root cause(s) of a business situation. Anyone can say that there are problems that need to be resolved to improve effectiveness. However, many times these problems are merely effects from other causes that may or may not be related to the actual problem.
The use of a fishbone diagram allows decision makers to assess potential causes and effects related to problems in a visual format. In this assignment, you will outline the perceived cause and effect relationships associated with the fishbone diagram. This process allows decision makers to reflect upon, note, and determine key factors that can be the root cause and effects associated with a given problem. The process is essential to eliminating factors that may at first appear to be the cause of a problem. Therefore, the key causes and related effects are focused on.
For the second part of this assignment, you will follow sequential steps to restate the draft of the problem statement you crafted in PS Dev: Draft. This process will enable you to view the problem from different viewpoints, perspectives, and lenses. The process of restatement allows decision makers and problem solvers to have confidence that the true problem and all of its elements have been properly identified, concisely defined, and effectively stated for appropriate action to take place. Now that you have analyzed the causes and effects of your potential decision, problem, or opportunity, you are now ready to finalize your problem statement. Remember to keep your problem statement short and focus on descriptive verbs.

Action Items

There are two parts to this assignment as follows:
Part One:
Review the draft of your problem from Week 1.
Develop a fishbone diagram outlining the related causes and effects of your problem, based upon your readings for this week.
Note: You may use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, or any of the software tools introduced in the Week 1 Preparation to build your fishbone diagram.
Make a record of your key findings you obtained by developing the fishbone diagram and placing them in a maximum 1-page document.
Note: Access and view the following multimedia presentation: Cause and Effect: Fishbone Diagraming for guidance in your work.
Part Two:
Review the draft of the problem statement you developed in Week 1.
Write a 2- to 3- page paper in which you include the following elements:
Problem Statement Testing: Test your problem statement by using the following five problem restatement techniques by the author of your text, The Thinker's Toolkit.
Paraphrase - Restate the problem using different words. (What really is the issue?)
180 Degree - Turn the problem completely around. (What is the opportunity here?)
Broadening the Focus- Restate the problem in a larger context. (How is the problem part of the bigger picture?)
Redirection - Change the overall focus of the problem. (What does it look like from another perspective?)
Why ask Why - Review the original problem, ask why again and then answering that question, again asking why, and so on. (What's at the bottom of the problem, underlying everything?)
Note: Access and view the following multimedia presentation: Problem Restatement for guidance in your work.
Conclusion: End your paper with 2-3 paragraphs including the following items:
Final problem statement: Restate your problem in a final form and in one sentence.
Clarification of changes: Note whether or not the changes in your problem statement are based on the application of the restatement process. If your problem statement did change, justify why and how you changed it.
Newly discovered problem knowledge: State what you discovered through the problem restatement process that may require further investigation or research.
Submit your paper to Turnitin.com. Your instructor will give you a login and password to the site.

Week 5: Individual assignment: Competitor Analysis and Competitive Strategy
Resources:
Executive summary
Porter's Generic Strategies
Sources of Competitive Advantage
Assignment overview: Individuals will conduct a competitor analysis and develop a competitive strategy for how Walmart can win customers in the  recommended entry country.

Assignment Objectives:  (1)  Identify and research 2—3 competitors in the recommended country, including at least one global competitor and one local competitor.

(2) Each individual will determine  the competitive strengths  and competitive weaknesses of the client company  by comparing client strengths and weaknesses with competitors’ strengths and weaknesses.
Note that not all your client's Strengths are competitive advantages, since competitors may have similar strengths.  You are looking for those very few competitive strengths (in people, product/service, processes, or other resources)  that will give your company a  differentiator or cost advantage.
Similarly, competitor weaknesses that your client company does not suffer may give your client company a relative competitive advantage, even if you have not previously identified this characteristic as a particular strength of your client company.  It need only be better than the competitors in order for you to consider it as a competitive advantage (e.g.,more efficient processes than a competitor's high cost production may mean your client can offer lower prices to customers than the competitor can).

(3) Applying Porter's Generic Strategies, you will then recommend and explain a competitive strategy that will attract new customers by leveraging  the client firm’s competitive strengths (e.g., a more technologically advanced product with higher buyer value) and/or  mitigate its  competitive weaknesses (e.g., mitigating a relatively low brand recognition by saturating a niche market with a focused differentiator message: "we serve small businesses with software designed for small business") ).

Assignment Requirements/format:

Step one: Using the summary information  from your group's week 4 country selection paper, the Introduction to this paper should consist of (a) statement of purpose (b)  description of the company and its industry, (c) the  product/service that will be entered in the new country; (d) description of the target country and why it was recommended as better opportunity than the other country.
Step two:  The body of the paper (approximately 8-10 pages double spaced) will:

1. Assess each competitor's  strengths and weaknesses
•    include in your assessment a competitors' ability to mitigate the country level threats you identified  in Week4.  Competitors that are more adept at risk mitigation (e.g., via a process or asset advantage) will be more of a competitive threat. For example, in a politically unstable country (threat) , a competitor  with a wide network of associations (asset)  may be better able to weather political change (thus the network is a risk mitigating advantage)..
2. Compare Competitor Strengths and Weaknesses to your client's Strengths and Weaknesses
3. Determine the two or three areas in which your client has a competitive advantage relative to competitors.  Explain how the advantage(s) represent a differentiation or cost advantage.  Be sure the data support this determination.
4.  Recommend a competitive strategy and explain why you have recommended the  strategy. Will this be effective against all or only some of the competitors?  Will you need a combined strategy or a tiered strategy (implemented over time) in order to compete for the long term?
•    Write a 1-2 page Executive summary for the entire paper (i.e., name the company and its industry; describe the  country opportunity; the competition and how your client can compete. Be specific about where cost advantage is or what differentiates your client).
•    Include a Title page (with your name!) and a Table of Contents, to be placed just after the Executive summary. After the Executive summary, include page numbers on the body of the paper, starting with page one.
•    Include a Reference list, using proper APA format for all references and in-text citations.

Looking ahead:  In Week 6, your team will agree upon a  business level competitive strategy, based on these individual member inputs, analyses, and recommendations.  The team will identify specific buyers to target, estimate the dollar value of that target market, and will develop a positioning statement to appeal to  the targeted market segment.  The team will submit its current draft business plan (sections 2-11) and finalize its  SWOT  in preparation for developing your corporate level strategy in weeks 7 and 8.

Please see attached paper.  It contains most of the data that is needed and needs to merge in data on an analysis of India and Vietnam as countries for Walmart to expand to.

Please rebuild this paper to make sure it flows well, fill in any areas where more research is needed and make a recommendation on which country Walmart should choose for expansion.

The objectives are to further analyze Opportunity and Threat in the two countries and recommend one country for your client's market entry.  The team will expand the PESTEL analyses already done by (1) estimating the Economic Opportunity for your client's specific product/service; i.e., the potential market size for your client's particular product/service (2) evaluating  the general level of competitive Threat (e.g., number and size of competitors); and (3) determining  how well  your client's operational needs can be met.

Paper Format:

1.    The introduction to this paper should consist of (a)  statement of purpose (b) description  of your client company and industry; (b)  the product/service it will be taking into the new country; (c) the selection process and rationale for why these two countries were selected as the more favorable potential markets from all the countries your team members evaluated (This  is the summary rationale from Part One of this assignment).

2.    The body of the paper (approximately 10-15 pages, double spaced), should compare the two country markets on:

•    Opportunity factors and trends
o    Economic:  What is the market size and growth forecast FOR YOUR COMPANY’S PRODUCT/SERVICE. Be specific about who your buyer is, then find measures that will help you determine how many buyers are in each country market.  For example, you might use something like the number of passenger car registrations to size the automobile market if your client is an auto maker.
o      Opportunity Support factors for your product/service. (PESTEL)
o      Opportunity (capability) to support the operational needs of your  product/service (needs you  identified in your company profile; e.g., suppliers for your company product/service; or supporting transportation infrastructure for distributing your product; or appropriate workforce).
•    Threat factors and trends
o    The key industry factors and trends that will likely affect the general level of competition for this product/service  (Use Porter’s 5 +2 forces)
§    To Porter, competition or  “rivalry” in an industry can be fierce, moderate, or limited, depending on the strength of the other forces; e.g., fewer buyers increases the intensity of  competition among industry firms, as does the threat of new entrants or the cost for a company to  exit a market.  What is your assessment of the general level of competition in these two countries, given how these industry factors operate in each country.
o    The specific key competitors (both multinational and local) for your company’s product/service
o    Threats to client's operational needs (e.g., lack of needed supplies, infrastructure, workforce)
o    Other Threat factors for your product/service (PESTEL) (e.g., political regulations, cultural animosity toward western brands or toward your client's type of product/service)
3.  Recommend one country for entry,  based upon your analyses, and supported by appropriate  data from your research.
•    For your recommended country, specifically acknowledge the  country level Threats that will  require  risk mitigation strategies.
•    Recommend potential mitigation strategies for these  threats

4. Conclude with a succinct summary for why you have recommended the one country for your client's new market  entry, starting (always) with the quantified opportunity (in dollars or buyers), listing the threats and the mitigation strategies that will be needed to create market success.

Miserable at Work? Learn to Love Your Job

Have you ever had a job you didn't like? If not, you are probably in the minority. While job seekers in recent years has been advised to "find your passion" and "land a job you love," most people experience at least some dissatisfaction at work. Pat Lencioni, a management expert who wrote The Three Signs of a Miserable Job, suggests that job misery often boils down to managers; poorly managed jobs lead to disgruntled employees.Lencioni, who has endured a few miserable jobs himself, realized at a young age that many adults dislike their jobs. Given all the time spent at work, he concluded he did not want to experience that dissatisfaction. Lencioni believes many workers come to the job full of enthusiasm and excitement, only to have it drained out of them. Then people try to figure out why they are miserable, often attributing their unhappiness to pay or not having the right job. While salary and job fit are important, they usually are not why workers are miserable; rather, the reason is the way they are treated. Lencioni identifies three areas that managers should address to prevent their subordinates from experiencing misery: anonymity, irrelevance, and immeasurement.Anonymity is the feeling of being invisible, or the perception that your boss is not interested in you beyond the work you do. Your manager doesn't take an interest in your life or in you as an individual. Lencioni argues that people need to be known to be fulfilled. The best way for a manager to remove anonymity is to become familiar with an employee's interests, family, and life outside work. By taking time to sit down with each employee and ask what is going on in his or her life, managers demonstrate an interest in workers as humans.Irrelevance is not knowing why your job matters to someone else. Workers need to see how their work benefits and satisfies others. Human beings need to be needed and to be reminded frequently that they are needed. Managers should point out to employees regularly how their efforts help others. Finally, immeasurement refers to the need workers have to gauge their level of contribution and progress for themselves. Employees will not be happy, Lencioni says, if their success depends on the whims of managers to tell them they are making a difference. Managers need to provide tangible means for assessing success or failure. The key for managers is to identify specific areas that workers directly influence and then develop measures to assess these areas. It is in everyone's best interest for employees to be fulfilled at work. Happier employees are more productive. As Lencioni notes, the great companies have employees who are happy to be there.

Google Extends to Charitable Giving

After helping to revolutionize the world of information technology, Google wants to spur a new revolution. The company aims to use its wealth, technical knowledge, creativity, and global reach to tackle some of the world's biggest problems. Since Google, ranked number one on lists of best companies to work for, sees itself as a different sort of company, its philanthropy will be different too.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin started google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., with three million shares of the company stock, worth about $2 billion, and a pledge to contribute one percent of profits each year. After a long search, they appointed Larry Brilliant to lead this charitable entity. A physician and epidemiologist in his sixties, Brilliant had led the World Health Organization's efforts to eradicate smallpox, worked to prevent blindness in developing countries, managed two Silicon Valley technology firms, and co-founded The Well, an online service.

Brilliant took two years to develop the strategy for google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. He created a different structure than that of traditional charities. Google's "hybrid philanthropy" would invest in for-profit ventures as well as make charitable grants. To determine what google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. would pursue, Brilliant and his team compiled a list of 1,000 ideas from Google employees and others around the world. They narrowed them down to 11, with a team member assigned to each to further study the idea and advocate for it with Dr. Brilliant and the rest of the team. The focus came down to initiatives in three areas: poverty, climate change, and global health.

To battle poverty, google.org plans to invest in small and medium-sized start-ups to create jobs and spur economic growth in developing countries. These would be for-profit ventures, but Brilliant emphasizes that google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.'s underlying goal is not to make a profits but to improve lives. To foster climate change, the goals are to make electricity from renewable energy at a price lower than coal and to increase market acceptance of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. One company in which Google has invested is Brightsource Energy, a solar thermal technology developer. In the area of global health, google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. is working on an initiative called "predict and prevent" to develop early warning systems to identify and report outbreaks of pandemic diseases, such as bird flu. Google has partnered with the Rockefeller Foundation to form a surveillance network in the Mekong River region of Southeast Asia.

While the challenges are daunting, Brilliant believes that companies can play a big part in solving the world's problems. With his leadership and Google's resources, google.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. may become what Page and Brin had in mind from the beginning. They hope their company's philanthropy will someday surpass Google itself in impact in the world.
