Racism is defined as the belief that one race is inherently superior to another (Merriam-Webster) and this type of racism can be observed on a micro-level. When racism is an issue on a macro-level it is called institutional racism. Institutional racism is when a certain societal institution as a whole covertly (and sometimes overtly) utilizes racial practices.
For this essay you will pick one institution you find racist. You may choose any social institution and any race to write about.

Some examples are:

1. American Health Care and minorities in general

2. American Prisons and Blacks

3. The media and Native Americans

4. The American Government and Hispanic undocumented workers

5. Educations and Hispanics or Blacks

6. The Catholic Church and Hispanics or Native Americans

7. The Railroad industry and Asian Immigrants

8. US political parties and anyone who isn’t a white male

You are more than welcome to explore your own example of institutionalized racism. Your subject does not have to be specific to the US, but it does need to explore both a certain institution (be specific) as well as a form of racism (not prejudice).

you do not need to focus on a solution to this problem because institutional racism is often not explicitly viewed as a problem. Instead, please present at least two examples of how this is an issue. For example, you could argue that institutional racism is an issue in the health care system because black men were used for experimentation in the 50’s and because blacks were sent to color specific hospitals until as late as the 70’s (which could have denied them access to the best health care possible).

In addition to at least two examples of this racism in your chosen institution, you will need to explore and respond to the opposition; this will require research. Find at least one argument as to why racism is not found in your institution. Present this argument and argue against it. For example, you might find an argument that states that in the medical world people are still asked to state their identified race because certain races are more prone to certain diseases. You could argue against that by explaining how disease is regionally found, not racially found.

Structurally, you will need an introduction with a specific and arguable thesis, at least two body paragraphs arguing that your chosen type of institutional racism is indeed an issue, one body paragraph addressing the opposition, and a conclusion. Make sure to incorporate proper MLA and use transitions. You do not need to offer a solution for the type of racism, as racism has been proven to have no real solution.
(Please have a godd structure)
