Change is inevitable in a modern global society. Rapidly developing emergent technologies demand innovative curricular and instructional approaches and strategies. Teacher leaders must learn to adapt existing strategies and be open to strategic innovation to sustain effective instructional delivery in a global educational environment. Further, they must remain effective managers of the circular nature of global literacy to avoid the risk of antiquated recycling of the status quo. In this assignment, you will explore technology, learning, and change in the global educational environment.
Write a paper (1,150-1,500 words) in which you explore technology, learning, and change in the global educational environment. Address the following themes with support from the extant literature:
The nature of change management theories. What are the key theories of change management? What are the primary tenets of these theories?
Change and learning. How are learning and change related? How does this influence instruction in the global educational environment? (Benchmarks C3.5: Analyze the relationship between learning and change.)
Change theories connected to technology and teaching. What change management theories are applicable to the integration of technology into teaching practice? (Benchmarks C3.4: Integrate models and theories of change.)
Qualitative and quantitative software in educational assessment. How can innovative qualitative and quantitative software assist with educational assessment to improve student outcomes? (Benchmarks C3.2: Analyze technology innovation that improves outcomes.)

Locate three examples of ageism in society and describe these, with artifacts if available. You can find these examples in newspapers, magazines, radio and television, movies and everyday life situations. For each example:
Describe in detail what took place and why it is an example of ageism.
Identify the negative belief or assumption about aging and/or older people that your example reflects.
Explain why each example is ageist and suggest ways of avoiding these situations in the future.
It is important that you give three examples of ageism, and follow the question prompts given in the assignment description for each of your three examples. The number of words should be between 500 and 1000 words for the whole assignment. Please note that for this assignment ageism is considered as “negative or positive stereotypes, prejudice and/or discrimination against (or to the advantage of) elderly people on the basis of their chronological age or on the basis of a perception of them as being ‘old’ or ‘elderly’” (Iversen, Larsen & Solem, 2009, p. 15). Also, we refer to people older than 65 as older adults.
You can structure your paper in five paragraphs (introduction + three paragraphs on three selected artifacts and their critical analyses + concluding paragraph).
You can select your artifacts from any sources (everyday life, community center brochures, TV ads, magazines, films) where older adults are victims of ageism or are treated negatively, and can provide them as an appendix of your paper (should not be counted into the word limit). Please, analyze your explanation in light of the relevant course readings.
In addition, I had a question about referencing weekly modules. It is better to avoid referencing weekly lectures because they are just lectures, like any other that you would have in a face-to-face environment. You are encouraged to reference articles if you want to make some claims or any other source for examples of ageism. However, you can refer to the weekly lectures by using: "text" (Kaufman, Week ?, EDUC351), or without quotation marks if it's not a direct quotation. For referencing external sources, such as websites, TV shows, etc., check the rules in the APA style manual.

Paper Instructions:
Students should provide subheadings for the following when writing their paper:
Introduction: An introductory paragraph which introduces the reader to the student’s topic and provides an overview on what the student’s reader will learn by reading his/her paper. It should have three basic elements: a) a topic sentence which defines the topic and “grabs” the reader (i.e., the attention getter); b) a thesis statement which is the argument that will be presented (i.e., the main point of the paper), and c) outline sentences which describe the main topics in the “body” (i.e. other) paragraphs.
Summary: Students must read, comprehend, analyze and summarize a Supreme Court Case. They must research relevant literature on their case topic, using information from previous courses, as well information gathered from systematic research. What were the facts of the case, what was the Court’s decision, and what was the basis for the Court’s decision? Students should carefully consider previous cases, existing statutory law, etc. (LO 1 &LO 2).
Policy Impact: Students must put forth a reasonable and empirically substantiated argument and demonstrate how the case impacts criminal justice policy and practitioners. Students must understand the rationale for its basis and be able, not only to apply the theoretical model to an area of the criminal justice system, such as policing, the judiciary/courts (including the prosecutor and defense offices), or corrections, but be able to show how the Court’s decision impacts current practices, in addition to their own career. Students should discuss the case’s impact on criminal justice policy by reviewing its theoretical and practical implications for criminal justice professionals. Students will research how this new law has affected criminal justice practice. For example, how did police practices change after Miranda? How it did affect potential suspects? What do scholars say about its significance? This part should be well researched and it is recommended that the students utilize journals to acquire their information. Students are required to cite properly according to APA guidelines with both in-text citations and a full reference page (LO 1, LO 2 & LO 3).
Summary Statement: Students should devise an argument agreeing or disagreeing with the Supreme Court decision. When writing this portion of the paper, which is persuasive, students should use facts of law, legal precedent, scientific data, etc., to substantiate their position, without writing in the “I” format (LO 2 & LO 3)

Need to analyze a piece of media (article, audio, video, etc.) based on ANY ONE of the pdfs attached.
The structure of the essay should be as follows:
1. an account of the author's theory/idea proposed in your chosen reading (for instance, Foucault's theory of power as presented in the History of Sexuality vol 1) and
2. an analysis of a piece of media using that author's theory (for instance an analysis of the Apple Watch commercial using Foucault's theory of power)
Note that these two parts should be thought of as two sections of a single essay. You don't have to give an analysis of the entirety of any reading. You only have to explain enough of the reading so that it can then be used to critique the chosen piece of media.
Adequately introduce an author's idea so that you can then use that idea to mount an insightful criticism of an article or other piece of media.
What I will be looking for: Have you articulated your chosen author's ideas clearly and accurately? Have you given enough detail so that you can then go on to use those ideas to critique your chosen piece of media? Have you given too much detail in explaining your chosen essay, giving details irrelevant to the critique of your chosen media? Have you chosen to critique a piece of media that is appropriate and relevant to the reading you chose? Does the essay critically assess the chosen media and not simply explain it? And finally, is the essay on the whole a thoughtful analysis of both the chosen reading and media and does it teach me something new? Or is it sloppily thrown together and unilluminating?
Before you start writing the essay, I want you to cross check the "piece of media" you choose with me. I also want you to let me know which attached pdf you choose from the 3 before you start writing the essay.
This is an important essay and I need to be sure you have read the instructions carefully and understand it thoroughly.

Part 1
Evaluate the role of your specialization within the field of counseling. Begin with your own description of the field itself, including both the history and the philosophies involved. Then explain where your specialization fits and describe how your specialization might collaborate with one other specialization that you describe. Cite the articles or other sources you used for the basis of your ideas.
In this part, specifically address the following questions:
How would you describe the key philosophies of the counseling profession: wellness, resilience, and prevention?
Choose a wellness model and explain how that model impacts the way in which counselors view clients and the concerns brought to counseling, including the kinds of information counselors need to have about their clients.
How have those key philosophies developed?
Provide a brief historical perspective of the counseling profession focused on the key philosophies of wellness, resilience, and prevention. Include the beliefs and assumptions that support those philosophies.
How did your specialization develop?
Identify your preferred counseling specialization and describe how the specialization emerged or the profession developed, including the key ideas on which it is based.
What other counseling specialization works well in collaboration with your specialization? Briefly explain how this other specialization developed, highlighting the ways in which it complements yours.
Part 2
Now, select one of the following two cases as a foundation for illustrating what you have learned about counseling and how professionals in different specializations might work together to meet the needs of a client:
Ashley, a 12-year-old girl, admits to one of her teachers that she feels very depressed. Her mother has recently remarried, and Ashley is having difficulty adjusting to life with her stepfather and his two children. She is not able to concentrate in class or do her homework.
Paul, a 25-year-old man, seeks counseling at a community mental health center. He has recently returned from his second deployment to a combat zone. He reports drinking frequently and feeling anxious. Paul's wife has tried to reassure him that everything is fine, but he is reluctant to leave the house and has missed more than a week of work.
After selecting a client, either Ashley or Paul, complete the following for Part 2:
Analyze how professionals from your specialization and from the other specialization you examined in Part 1 might collaborate to benefit the person and family in the case study you chose.
Describe the role and function of each of the professionals involved.
Identify the characteristics that make each role unique and effective counselors for this case.
Assess how to ensure good collaboration and communication between the professionals representing the two specializations.
Identify the type of outside agency that could assist this client to promote optimal wellness, providing two examples.
Explain the standards or criteria that you would use to evaluate the collaboration.
Review the scoring guide given in the resources to make sure you understand how this assignment will be graded.

The Most Important Public Health Achievements and Events
20th Century Public Health Achievements
According to the CDC, public health has been credited with adding 25 years to the life expectancy of people living in the U.S. in the 20th century. But, how? Since it can be difficult for the general public to understand the impact of public health interventions, the CDC created Ten Great Public Health Achievements in the 20th Century as a very helpful overview of all the great things public health has been able to achieve.
Vaccination to reduce epidemic diseases
At the beginning of the 20th century, infectious diseases such as smallpox, measles, diphtheria, and pertussis were widely prevalent. Since there were few effective measures available, death tolls were high. Both the development and promotion of vaccinations against preventable diseases has resulted in dramatic declines in morbidity and mortality and even results in the eradication of smallpox.
Improved motor vehicle safety
Since 1925, there has been a 90% decrease in the annual death rate due to motor vehicle travel. This is particularly impressive given the number of motor vehicles, drivers, and miles traveled in motor vehicles have all increased dramatically since 1925.Some of the biggest interventions include regulations developed and enforced regarding safety belts, alcohol-impaired drivers, young drivers, pedestrians, and child safety and booster seats.
Safer workplaces
Data from CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Traumatic Occupational Fatalities (NTOF) surveillance system indicate that the annual number of work-related deaths decreased 28% from 1980 to 1995 with a 43% decrease in occupational injuries during the same time.
Control of infectious diseases
The leading causes of death in 1900 were pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), and diarrhea and enteritis whereas in 1997, 4.5% of deaths were attributable to pneumonia, influenza, and HIV infection. Sanitation and hygiene, vaccination, and antibiotics are among the control measures responsible for this marked decrease. Who knew handwashing could be so powerful!
Decline in death from cardiovascular disease
While deaths due to infectious death have gone down dramatically, heart disease has been the leading cause of death for most of the 20th century. Since 1950, age-adjusted death rates from cardiovascular disease have been cut by more than half. Some of the key public health factors contributing to this decline include the decline in tobacco use, changes in the U.S. diet, and better early detection and treatment of those at risk of cardiovascular disease (e.g. individuals with hypertension, high cholesterol, etc.)
Food Safety
Contaminated food and water resulted in many foodborne infections in early in the 20th century. Advances, such as refrigeration, pasteurization, pest control, animal control, and food safety regulations that promoted better hygiene and sanitation practices all contributed to decreases in foodborne infections.
Improvements in maternal and child health
Childbirth use to come with great risk to many mothers and infants. Over the span of the century, the infant mortality rate declined greater than 90% and the maternal mortality rate declined almost 99%. Improvements in nutrition, standards of living, access to health care, and surveillance and monitoring of disease contributed to reducing risks to mothers and infants.
Family planning
Better family planning interventions have resulted in longer intervals between births and smaller family sizes, both of which have been associated with improved maternal and child health outcomes.
Fluoridation of drinking water
At the beginning of the century, extensive dental caries was common in the U.S. with tooth extraction being the main treatment option available. Several studies have suggested that water fluoridation has contributed to reductions in dental caries when compared to communities without fluoridated water.
Reductions in prevalence of tobacco use
Smoking has been associated with a number of morbidities including cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and low birth weight. According to the CDC, it is the leading preventable cause of death and disability in the United States. Due to massive public health efforts that include smoking cessation interventions and regulation of the purchase and use of tobacco, there have been substantial reductions in smoking.

As Psychology 402 is a senior-level course, it is assumed that most students are experienced at writing term papers. Students who are unsure of their writing ability should ask their tutor for assistance and for reference to helpful materials. Also, ensure that you review the Course Resources section below for further guidance with research and for help with the course in general.
Your term paper should be 3500 to 4500 words in length, which is about 12 to 15 double-spaced wordprocessed pages. Note that this does not include title pages, reference pages, figures, and appendices. The typical font size is 12 point (minimum acceptable size is 11 point) and the font style is Times New Roman. Finally, use one-inch margins all around. Primary (original and interpreted) and/or secondary citations within the text are to follow the APA format. You are expected to submit your paper electronically in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) through the online course drop box on the main course page. Contact your tutor for further instructions or to make alternative arrangements.
Your paper should be written according to the style described by the American Psychological Association (APA): American Psychological Association. (2010). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, DC: Author. http://www.apastyle.org. A tutorial has been created to show you how to use the APA publication manual, and can be accessed at http://fhss2.athabascau.ca/psyc/apa6.
To assist in your literature review, the following scholarly research sites are helpful: Pub Med, Google Scholar, Pro Quest, ERIC, and PsycINFO. Look for scholarly peer-reviewed papers in the last five years. Of course, the AU library is accessible for you to start looking for primary research articles on your topic: http://library.athabascau.ca.
Characteristics of a Quality Paper
A well-organized paper will consist of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. It must include a title page and a reference list, and may include figures and appendices. The introduction must provide relevant background information and should contain the rationale and scope of the paper. It should be concise and contain a clear thesis statement. The body of the paper is based on the review of the literature and should support the thesis proposed. The conclusion should summarize and integrate the main points presented in the paper, reinforce the thesis statement, and provide recommendations for further study.
Cite authorities (i.e., authors of research) to back up your statements. Unfounded conjecture (i.e., statements by you or an author that are not based on research or logical extrapolation from empirical or experimental research) has no place in scientific writing. Avoid citing exhortative literature and non-scientific authors or sources. Your supporting citations should be dominated by current journal articles (i.e., primary sources). While textbooks, other books, and internet documents can be used as references, these should be minimized and are considered secondary sources. In particular, minimal reference to Kalat's textbook is expected and acceptable, but a significant reliance on it is unacceptable. Keep in mind that you could also include sources from the “Supplementary Materials List” found below. As a guideline, a reasonable number of sources to include in a paper of this nature would be 10 to 15.
Your paper should have a structural theme. You can order it chronologically, logically, or in accordance with some paradigm, such as the thesis you have proposed. The structure should give unity and coherence to your paper. An overall system permitting infinite variation would include the following general structure: Introduction, Background Information, Review of the Literature, Summary, Conclusions (or Discussion and Implications), and References. Considering that the largest portion of your paper will be the literature review (i.e., the body of the paper), it is recommended that it be organized into appropriate subheadings relevant to the specific material.
The paper should demonstrate your ability to integrate a specific body of research rather than just a synopsis of the subject matter. This assignment is intended to develop your skill in analysing, synthesizing, and evaluating scientific research, and to further the development of your skill in writing a scholarly paper.
An additional feature of the paper may include a figure or diagram to enhance discussion of complex anatomy, circuitry, or mechanisms of specific biological processes.
Citation System
The citation system outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed., 2010) is the most easily used and economical system currently in use in psychological circles. This manual may be borrowed from the Athabasca University Library, or from another library at which you have borrowing privileges. Alternatively, you should consult with our APA Tutorial.
Note that it is quite uncommon to use quotations in scientific writing. When citing research, you should use your own words to describe the particular study. Quotations should be used only when you wish to point out some specific aspect of the actual writing of the authors. Do not use quotations to introduce general information from the source you are using.
A reference list contains all the sources referred to in your paper, and is arranged in alphabetical order. Every source mentioned in your paper should appear in the reference list, and every item in the list should have a corresponding citation in the text of your paper. A list containing articles and/or books that you read but did not actually cite in the text of your paper is called a bibliography, and typically is not included in a paper of this nature.

Psychodynamic theory and practice has enflamed much of basic assumptions of therapeutic care, but often those assumptions are left, ironically, un-analyzed (e.g., unilinear development, the unconscious and being able to consciously know the unconscious, the authority and truth keeper of the analyst, analysis as the translation of experience into meta-psychological schemas, here and now healing as exploring then and there, and the defect-based starting place of a hermeneutic of suspicion (i.e., the suspect of presentation as hiding the secret), to name a few assumptions). Pick a critique of psychodynamic theory by challenging an historical assumption about one of these ideologies, and what difference it would make for current psychodynamic practice.
Claras respond
One critique of psychodynamic theory can be with regard to the authority and truth keeper of the analyst. Historical assumptions about this ideology can include that this conception of the analysts’ authority as truth keeper is a necessary component of psychotherapy in relation to what can be considered the tradition of psychotherapy (Larsson, 2017).
The analyst’s authority and truth keeper can also be considered in view of what Larsson (2017) describes as the therapeutic dialogue and initially, would have been conducted in a therapeutic setting as a “normal dialogue” (p. 155) between the patient and the analyst. Interestingly, the reasoning behind, for example, conditions of psychoanalysis such as having the patient positioned on a couch faced away from the analyst can be considered a necessary aspect of psychotherapeutic dialogue. Which can be in a sense unique to the performance of psychoanalysis or psychotherapy and necessary in the activity of uncovering the unconscious.
For Larsson (2017) a therapeutic condition such as this can be seen to differentiate what is the therapeutic experience from what can be “normal social context of conversation” (p. 158). The idea of psychoanalysis as a medical specialty also seems to emphasize the role of the analyst as authority and truth keeper and in view of what is considered therapeutic dialogue and conditions that would be necessary to achieve psychological change (or healing).
Therapeutic conditions assumed to be necessary for therapeutic dialogue, which seems to support assumptions over the authority and truth keeper of the analyst (on the basis of the analyst medical expertise), can be considered to neglect the importance of social context/dynamics and inter-subjectivity. For current psychodynamic practice, considering the self in view of social context and the inter-subjectivity of thought seems necessary for what Larsson (2017) describes as empathic reflection, and considered in view of humanistic approaches.

RE: Discussion 2 - Week 1
COLLAPSE
I understand the comparison of the two situations. However, I feel as though in my line of work the options are different than in a medical professionals line of work. I work as a case worker for CPS. I work with families after their children have been removed from the home. A lot of what I do for these families are based on their needs, resources available, and court orders. While I do utilized strength based practice in the way I interact with these families and I often look back on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs when dealing with the children. I would not say that I generally use any social work theories. I am not super versed on social work theories if I am being honest. Most of what I do is based on my experience, knowing the resources available, and what I would refer to as common sense but you can call it intuition. However if my doctor is treating me, you better believe I want tests ran to back up any gut feelings he has. Turner stated that "without such an understanding, practice remains in the realm of guesswork" (2011, pg. 9). I understand this conclusion, however I also see that we send our families to therapist and psychologist/psychiatrist to be evaluated. While I evaluate the family's needs and strength based on the removal affidavit and conversations with the family, I would not say I utilize any particular theories while doing so. I could be wrong.
I hope in this class to learn more about theories that I may utilize without even knowing it.

RE: Discussion 2 - Week 1
COLLAPSE
In the two different situations presented, there were only a few differences. In the first situation, I relied more on my professional and personal experiences as well as what other professionals had suggested with examples, provided via their cases as well as data in various research. Where there was a difference in these two situations, rested more on the other situation. I believe these choices differed based on several factors. For example, when working with a client, you rely on them to let you know how something is working, if they believe something is helpful or they are following through on a suggestion or a step you provided, you tend to have to go based off of their self-reporting, or that of another social worker or other person involved in their treatment. In contrast, in the second situation, a medical doctor often as other ways of being able to tell if treatment is working effectively, such as through blood tests and other labs.
When following one’s intuition or personal experience, there are several advantages; when following your own experiences, you can share not only your own successes or struggles, you are also sharing your personality which can be an asset when building repour. An additional advantage to sharing personal experiences is that it falls under two of the National Association of Social Workers’ code of ethics; dignity and worth of the person and importance of human relationships. (NASW, 2017). When a social worker shares their personal experiences, they are engaging in the importance of human relationships by helping the client view the social worker as a person and helps to limit some imbalance of power. The additional ethical consideration of the dignity of the person is that it allows the client to not feel so alone in a problem or problem behaviors along as gives hope to the client and sets an example. While personal experiences are great for helping build repour with clients, and an excellent place to start with various interventions and treatment, it is also essential for a social worker to be mindful and realize when self-disclose is appropriate and done professionally.
The advantages of using theories and research evidence are just as vast as utilizing personal experiences. The advantages of using evidence-based research and various theories are that the studies or ideas are backed by data; the data can help a social worker decided what is the best intervention or type of treatment as well as gives the social worker and their team an idea of the success rate. A disadvantage to solely using evidenced-based research and theories is that they can limit the way a social worker views a client, for example, clients are humans who have multiple intersections and are not just a statistic in data.
