Media

Introduction

The media has become an omnipresent feature in the modern world.  Several studies make the argument that the modern world is now a small place which has been impacted TV channels which hold effects on students’ knowledge as well as culture (Noble, Osheim, & Strauss, 2008). In the Arabs world especially for the Arabs students in American, Girne University dubbed Arabs series holds a greater influence in the media world. Dubbing can be referred as the  procedure through which  the translation of drama into a language of a different country through eradicating the main voice of the characters  thus replacing it with a distinct language voice to fit that of the particular country that is done through recording methodology (Noble,  Osheim, & Strauss, 2008). This paper will, therefore, seek to present an analysis of the role of dubbed Turkish TV series in Arabic channels and its effect on the culture values of Arab students at Girne American University.

The Arabian world is characterized by a strong culture which is very hard to assimilate based on their practices.  For the youths in university, the dubbed Turkish series plays a critical role in regard to culture as well as thinking transformation (Noble, Osheim, & Strauss, 2008). In the field of communication, there have been increased technological advances and Turkish dubbed series have come to play a significant role in the lives of the Arabs students in the Girne University.  Turkish dubbed serials play a significant role in the Arabs students in the context of ideas generation as well as individual’s social behaviors.  In addition, the Turkish dubbed series influences the students to entrench, leave and even modify social values (Dinçer, Dinçer, Kutlay, & Kurumu, 2012).

Turkish dubbed serials attract a wide range of audiences and mostly the Arabs students in Girne University.  The Turkish dubbed series themes, characters conduct of dressing and the romantic scenes are not inconsistent with the Arabs society’s customs as well as the entrenched values (Noble, Osheim, & Strauss, 2008). Dubbed Turkish series holds negative as well as positive impacts of their consumption by the Arabs university students. Most Arabs students in American universities are highly attracted by the dubbed series based on different reasons.  The main rationale is based on communication and technological advances.

Study Significance

Turkish dubbed series affects the Arabs youths negatively because they fail to protect their cultural value as well as nationality. This series, therefore, sweeps ways the conduct of individuals thus transforming the social behavior. This, therefore, means that the cultural values of the Arabs students are assimilated thus adopting the Turkish modern values (Dinçer, Dinçer, Kutlay, & Kurumu, 2012). Turkish series are the most popular among the youths and therefore their influence I particularly high. Most Arabs students have the challenge of differentiating between reality as well as fiction as the series influences the attitudes, ideals as well as the behaviors of the students. The dubbed series impacts Arabs students by shifting life style changes. Most students’ transforms their conduct as well as the code of dressing by on what the series portrays, the images that are demonstrated by the series acts as motives influences thus changing the ideas as well as the conduct of individuals. It has been established that most Arab students are in support of the recent dubbed Turkish serials spread.  Dubbed series brings negative cultural invasion which impacts traditions and values of the Arabs negatively (Dinçer, Dinçer, Kutlay, & Kurumu, 2012).

Managing Communication

The chapter defines communication as the process of exchanging ideas and information where the parties involved understands each other with the aim of motivating or influencing behavior. Communication is the most essential way of promoting success in all organization. Communication is mainly carried out by managers either online, face to face or on telephone since managers ensure that employees get the directions for them to achieve the set goals and objectives in that organization (Daft, 2015). In an organization, managers act like communication champions since they engage all employees and ensure communication is made effective. There are different models of communication with both focusing on the sender and the receiver. The sender should ensure information reaches the intended receiver in good time and the right channel followed.

Communication is enhanced when people follow a certain procedure. For example people encourage open communication since it ensures people remain honest. Many communication channels should be used since they ensure communication remains effective. Communication need to be fit in the organizations organizational culture so as to promote openness and honesty (Daft, 2015). Communication among different people is made open so that people can share ideas within the organization. Open communication takes place in two forms namely centralized network and decentralized network where members communicate freely with each other and with the leaders.

Communication channels should be well chosen by the managers since the channels have both advantages and disadvantages therefore managers should ensure they follow the richest channel. Communication should be well effective such that managers should influence employees and ensure employees do not fear communicating with them. Employees should ask questions for clarification since it creates trust and openness between them and the managers (Daft, 2015). Managers should listen to their employees as well as customers since feedback from customers is important. Effective communication entails use of social media, verbal communication which should be enhanced in the work place. Communication is the best tool during crisis within the organization in order to ensure crises are solved and success is enhanced within the organization.

 Social media in the workplace

The world is constantly evolving in various aspects that change the way we operate and relate to each other. Among the various areas that have received a lot of revolution and development is in the field of technology. It is now possible for people to interact not only locally but also on a global scale using computer technology and other devices. Thanks to the internet, people are now using social media and other avenues to communicate with each other about things they encounter on a daily basis. While this has its benefits especially in the field of marketing and creating awareness, there are various negatives that come about from this new technology especially in the way employees interact on issues related to their places of work. In a bid to ensure that an organization maintains a positive image even on the internet, most employers are becoming more reliant on the services offered by CIO’s. while the CIO’s have little, if any, control over what employees share over the internet, they try to ensure that a company is not at risk of having sensitive information leaked by helping employees to understand their responsibility in matters concerning confidentiality and privacy policies.

Over the years, technology has continued to evolve to the extent that data access speeds are faster than one could have ever imagined. Other than speed, factors like aerial density make it possible to store large bits of data on a hard disk drive (Bednar, 2011). With access to fast data and the means to store large data that could contain sensitive company information, companies have become more aware of implementing policies that help to prevent this information from being leaked or used negatively by employees or anyone who gets access to it. With the help of CIO’s companies are now realizing the risk that social media could have and help in implementing measures that regulate employees and encourage them to maintain good work ethics (Schubert, 2011).

Part of CIO’s responsibilities involves identifying ways in which social media could cause problems and find out means of preventing them from occurring. Some of the risks of social media that have been identified include loss of productivity for companies because employees spend most of their time engaged in social media cites. According to Nelson (2011), employees spend most of their time logged in to social media cites through technological devices. While some still perform the duties assigned to them, most of them engage in multitasking where their time is shared between working and engaging in social media (Schubert, 2011). Employees are often glued to their mobile devices when walking or working and some even do so while in meetings. As a result, the productivity of an organization goes down because the employees are either distracted or are not giving their all when accomplishing their duties.

There is also the possibility that confidential information or intellectual property could be leaked through these sites. Employees have access to very sensitive information regarding a company or its clients. The employees also have personal social media accounts where they are at liberty to post whatever they see fit (Schubert, 2011). While companies have policies that prevent employees from sharing confidential information, there is little that they can do to prevent an employee from posting such information on social media in cases where conflicts arise between them and the employer. Regardless of the fact, companies have no option but to trust employees to do the right thing.

In cases where banks are concerned, a bad outcome could result from employees posting financial information of customers over the internet for all to see. There have been cases where employees talk negatively about their organization and in doing so, paint a bad image for the company (Farley, 2011). There is also the issue concerning maintaining the privacy of a company’s clients. Most clients prefer their privacy to be respected by the companies that they associate with and as a result, they are more comfortable sharing personal information. With social media, there is the risk that some employees may use the information to either stalk the clients for various reasons or share information that will be seen as a violation to the client’s privacy (Schubert, 2011).

Despite the various risks that the internet and social media pose, it is a trend that does not seem to be going away soon. There is also the fact that some organizations have learnt to adapt and incorporate it into the working environment (Nesbit, 2011). If well utilized, the risks can be navigated and social media could be used in a way that is beneficial to the company. Through social media, for example, people and organizations of similar needs and interests are brought together and share information that creates various opportunities that are beneficial to all parties involved (Schubert, 2011). However, since implementing the social media in the workplace is still a difficult subject; CIOs help organizations to understand how to use social media in a way that is beneficial to them. The difficulty comes in due to the fact that employees are vivid thinkers who have the right to post what they want on social media. CIOs must therefore work with the HR and IT departments to help develop some sense of control over what employees can share when they are at work (Schubert, 2011).

While some companies hold employees accountable to what they post on social media as a way of controlling them, doing so may pose them at more risks. Legally, employees have the right to air their opinions and whatever they post on social media is protected by the freedom of speech or expression. Employees can therefore sue their employer for any action taken against them for something they shared on social media because doing so is a violation of their rights (Bendnar, 2011). Rather than initiating more conflict, employers can work with CIOs and IT department to control what employees can post online. The IT could only limit access to the internet to company computers only. This allows them to control who has access to social media and what they post buy giving access to select individuals (Schubert, 2011). Human resource department could also focus on training employees on ethical conduct and responsibility not only in the workplace but also in their homes.

Despite the various policies suggested by CIOs, the decision whether to allow social media in the workplace rests on the employer. While the risks will always be there, the employer should find ways to navigate around them so as to benefit from the opportunities that social media has to offer. When implementing policies to control how social media is used, employers need to focus more on employees rather than the use of technology. This is because technology will keep on evolving but people learned behavior, work ethics and professionalism remain constant. By focusing on employees, the policies will not have to be changed every time a technological development occurs because the employees’ will still have the same approach towards the company.

Visual Language

I analyzed the picture that was a child’s portrait very carefully while capturing the stress and the strong points of the artist. The artist was a female child at the age of 7 years who drew a friendship portrait using different color representations. The major theme of the picture as it was indicated by the artist is love which was represented with a big heart colored purple. The reason for a big heart was to show the size of love and color purple represented the love itself.

It was perceptible that the artist used different picture patterns which included use of color, inclusiveness, overlapping figures, specificity, two mid action profiles, 2 new patterns, human figure drawing and size differences. Precisely, the total number of picture patterns was 10 where mid action profiles and new pattern took the largest percentage. Mid action profiles and new patterns had the percentage of 20 each whereas the others had 10% each. Citing from the analysis, the most interesting patterns included use of color, specificity, human figure drawing and use o an icon. Under use of color, the artist combined symbolism with color to convey the theme of the picture. She used color blue to represent the clouds and the time she is able to see the person she loved. Additionally, she used a heart which is the symbol of love together with the color she loved to represent love. For specificity, the artist used details in different symbols appropriate for the portrait. Additionally, the artist used every necessary component of the human figure in the picture making it easy to spot the differences. Lastly, the artist used icons perfectly to convey the theme of the picture. For instance, the artist used a heart in combination with her favorite color to represent affection.

Under the mid action, the artist used wavy lines to represent both the shining sun and the ground probably the grass. For the sun, the artist used color yellow whereas representing grass with light green color. According to the child, the reason for using color purple is because it is her favorite color. Therefore, she used the color to represent love in combination with a heart to signify affection. In normal basis, purple represent an ambition towards something. According to the child, she does not talk to Ryan and she can only talk to him when the sky is blue with fluffy clouds. Therefore, a heart with a color purple represents a desire for something which in this case is to talk to Ryan very often. The artist did not incorporate any textual captions in the picture to convey the theme. Instead, she used detailed icons and symbols to represent intended mood and theme. Citing from the size of the human figures incorporated in the picture, it is perceptible that the child had a problem displaying spatial concept. Size was not well represented well in the picture especially referring to the size difference between the human figures. Generally, the patterns in the picture represented the artist’s favorite things such as orange flavored cotton candy.

According to Malchiodi (2012), drawing is one of the most common ways that children express themselves especially emotions and personality. It is hypothesized that the drawings of children represent their inner worlds by depicting their thoughts and feelings that relates to their interpersonal life and psychological status (Malchiodi, 2012). Even though children might use drawing to explore the world and to exhibit their ideas and observations, it is factual that their artistic expressions are composed of personal statements with unique conscious and unconscious meaning according to them (Malchiodi, 2012). According to therapists, drawing by children is an efficient therapeutic modality citing from the fact that it helps children express themselves exclusively that language cannot help them do (Malchiodi, 2012). Apart from expressing children’s emotions, it is factual that drawing represents their daily experiences. In this case, children use both patterning and realistic depiction to depict their experiences (Soundy & Lee, 2013). Additionally, at this age when the children use drawing, neither of the form of art is regarded as more enhanced than the other. Psychological research indicates that children rely on visual representations while interpreting a story (Soundy & Lee, 2013). Correspondingly, they use image making as a technique of storytelling. It is perceptible that though children can make realistic pictures, they tend to use patterns such as wavy lines and color to design their art work. The reason behind this is based on playful and creative activity that children use while making a realistic depiction (Soundy & Lee, 2013).

Conclusion

The paper was a description of a portrait made by a seven year-old female child. The picture was a depiction of affection between the girl and the boy by the name Ryan. Furthermore, the picture represented love for the orange flavored cotton candy and desire to talk to Ryan often. Generally, the picture incorporated perfectly picture patterns which included use of color, inclusiveness, overlapping figures, specificity, two mid action profiles, 2 new patterns, human figure drawing and size differences.

Thesis statement

‘Generally I have experienced a simple and easy life of using computer especially in writing which saves time and money as well, on the other hand my uncle’s life was a bit expensive since he had to purchase pens and books for writing. The expenses he used on writing materials cannot be compared to my modern way of writing because unlike books and pens computers are only bought ones plus they are capable of storing information for future references, whereas my uncle’s book were not reliable in strolling data thus; he had to store them packed together and took time to recover information from them. ‘I save much time trying to recover necessary information from my computer considering the numerous data I have in store, whereas my uncle had to use much of his energy and time to recover precise information he requires at that moment’.

In terms of communication electronic media which involves the use of computer is the best since it is reliable as well as effective thereby; I used my computer to communicate to my friend who was in a foreign country and I save much time since it was fast, while my uncle who used pen and paper to send a message in his country. My form of communication is easier since one is able to share conversation, pictures, images, sound, graphic as well as graphs with ease, compared to the old media. The new media computer-mediated tools allow one to share information and career interests. Primarily, the social media uses mobile and web-based applications that create an impressive user interface that allows one to navigate through the Internet (Atzori & Morabito, 2010). With the technologies, the Internet users can create a platform in which people can share different ideologies, pictures, and jokes to a wide bunch of virtual users. Furthermore, the social media has introduced easy but a more divergent ways of communication between businesses, individuals, organizations and even governments (Atzori & Morabito, 2010).

Some of the most common examples of the new mass media we have around include Facebook, Tweeter, YouTube, google, and blogs among others. In comparison to the written form of communication my uncle used according to the interview, written communication is a time consuming as the feedback is not immediate thereby; it requires prodigious skills as well as competencies in language plus vocabulary usage. My uncle used many papers especially where he ensured his communication is effective and understood by the recipient. Despite the essential idea given by my uncle on written communication as more precise as well as unambiguous, it also comes along with a disadvantage that the receiver of the message might have doubts on the information due to distance separation thus; response is not impulsive (Hogarth, 2014).

It is important to touch on the methods of operation of the social media as a improved way of empathetic its influence to the general public. They are more advanced than the old media because they are of higher quality, they are fast, and most importantly, they are more permanent than their traditional counterparts. Besides, we should note that social media encompasses information from many sources to many receivers. According to its industrial counterparts, information was basically from one sender to many receivers (Hogarth, 2014).

One of the noble advantages of the new media is that it facilitates the process of communication by enhancing information discovery and delivery. The links between the sender of the information and the recipient of the message have become very easy, divergent and faster than the traditional means. Due to their real-time and interactive nature, the social media offers unparalleled opportunities for the customers to communicate with companies. Also, some of the companies can use the Internet to manage their customers and source information regarding customer feedback and possibly the number of times their most trusted customers visit their stalls (Atzori & Morabito, 2010).

With the widespread and fast Internet connectivity in the new media, important documents are sent through emails from one part of the world to the other. It has, therefore, attracted fraud stars that use expensive software to hack some emails for monetary gains or just to commit a crime. On the other hand on the interview with my uncle, it was clear that written communication he used was not applicable for all circumstances, due to various limitations where the paper with information is not always effective everywhere as a mode of communication. One and genuine disadvantage with written communication is that it lacks secrecy; my uncle had no choice on how to secure his written data, whereas I used password to secure my documents in the computer (Hallam, 2012).

The communication process is made up of four main components. The components includes; sender, message, medium plus receiver. In the written communication process there are also two major factors that are; the mean of message transmitting the document as well as the feedback. The system was highly used as older media to ensure the success of the message. In this case the sender must have experience in skill and knowledge to ensure that the receiver understood his information (Hallam, 2012).

Media’s manipulation in the current society on social conflict and celebrity

Introduction

‘Glory And Gore’ is the name of the song produced in 2014 by New Zealand singer Lorde. In her song she points out fame always has a price and thus one pays for them to become famous. She puts it clear that in most cases celebrities are brought on the spotlight for failures and mistakes they have committed rather than their wins and success. The song was embraced well though some people criticized it which must happen since people are different with all different tastes of the music they love. The song however was used during the Vikings advert which shows that it was popular in most of the media stations and people were familiar with the song. Lorde in her song says that glory cannot happen without people paying for it. The price of glory comes in any form even if it means losing something for one to get fame. This paper will therefore show that the song Glory and Gore did not have many explicit references to a celebrity or the music industry but rather focus on an aspect of social conflicts. It was questioning why our generation is putting through so many media stress and wondering whether it is making us more grounded and less sensitive when the time want us to battle for the things that are hard to accomplish in life.

The song by Lorde outlines the things that take place in our modern society and affect our social lives. The current generation is obsessed by the issue of celebrity where most of the people want to become famous or follow the footsteps of the celebs. The obsession in celebrity has become unhealthy in peoples’ lives since people chose to do anything possible for them to become celebs (The Rose Society, 112). As Lorde puts it glory goes hand in hand with gore indicating that achieving glory comes with various consequences. The media has contributed much in ensuring people admire celebs and wanting to become like them. The news about celebs are usually all over the media and most of the news are negative news about how the celebs are involved in cases of murder and drugs yet people admire those lives passionately. People currently are disconnected with their families as they follow celebs in the social media where they want to remain being associated with them (Collins, 87). People consume most of their time in the social media following celebs and imagining they will live and have lifestyles like those of the celebs. Celebs have paid their prices and ended up becoming famous but people still want to do everything possible and pay the prices too for them to gain fame. Most people view celebs as their role models and often follow their advices, which is misleading at times but people do not mind since they are obsessed by the celebs. People look for the brands celeb have, cars they drive and clothes they put on without knowing that maybe the celebs have been paid to promote those products (Collins, 87). In most cases people end up being mislead by the lifestyles of the celebs and are so obsessed by them such that everybody want to be associated with them and live just like them.

Lorde says that today’s generation focuses more on the media than ever before and wants to follow everything that happens in the social media even if most of the things cannot be affordable. People want to follow the footsteps of the celebs even where celebs go wrong people follow them too. Children learn more about celebs at a tender age, which is not good since they spend most of their time in the internet following the celebs (Cawelti, 60). Celebrity obsession is not good and has consumed most of peoples’ time as they try to follow and emulate the celebs. Most of the things accomplished by celebs cannot be accomplished by the people since most of the time celebs are paid to accomplish those things. People end up following the celebs and advices given to them even without caring whether it is right or not. People are so much into celebs such that they are ready to do anything for them to be like celebs and earn fame as well as money. The celebrity world is full of social crimes such as drugs and unsafe sex which is brought out open by the social media yet people figure out these things to be the right ones (Cawelti, 60). People want to enjoy life since they think the celebs enjoy life in the best ways possible and thus want to be associated with those celebs. Social media discusses celebs especially where they have made mistakes thus making them more popular. People want to make mistakes made by the celebs since they think it is right and want to follow the celebs regardless of whatever happens. The media supports the mistakes made by celebs since they publicize them and ensure celebs are role models to people.

The celeb world if full of terrible crimes such as murder and drugs where celebs do everything to remain famous even doing the impossible. Lorde in her song brings out this clearly since she blames the media for publicizing the private lives of celebs even where the lessons taught to the public are not pleasing. The media has contributed negatively on the society such that celebs are publicized for the bad things they do rather than the good things. Wrong things such as murder and drug abuse are given more attention and make people famous compared to the right things (Bonn, 94). People who have committed crimes become more famous compared to successful people whose deeds are clean and thus can contribute positive things to the society. Successful people are important people in the society since they are useful in promoting development rather than those people who commit crimes and end up becoming famous because of the media (Rubens, 103). Political leaders who are and promote violence in the society are the most famous ones in the current society where people break rules in order to get fame. The media ensures that people who keep on breaking the laws are the most famous and thus spread the spirit of violence among the people. Thus the media is wrong and should promote good values in the society instead of spreading virtues such as crimes that do not unite the people. The media should ensure the masses remain united through fighting crimes and ensuring successful people remain famous so that people can follow their examples. Currently people follow the footsteps of celebs therefore committing more crimes since the current society has endorsed crimes and even vote for leaders who have been involved in crimes (Rubens, 114). The current society has accepted crimes as part of the society and thus people are comfortable with the chaotic society where everybody lives on their own and commit crimes which in turn ensure the people remain famous.

Conclusion

From the above discussion, it is right to conclude that celebrity is important in our society but celebrity obsession is not right since people waste much time following lives of celebs. The obsession in celebrity has become unhealthy in peoples’ lives since people chose to do anything possible for them to become celebs. As Lorde puts it glory goes hand in hand with paying a price which celebs pay since their private lives are interfered with and they become exposed to the whole world. Lorde thinks that people should not remain obsessed with celebs and instead do other things that will add value to their lives. Celebs are involved in crimes which people should not be exposed too especially children in the current generation who love spending most of their time in the internet. People should follow what they know is right and avoid influences from other people especially celebs since following ideas from celebs is misleading. People should be careful and value their moral values more than how they value celebs and lifestyles of the celebs. Most celebs have been paid to promote and advertise the expensive cars they live as well as the expensive clothes they put on. Thus people should not compare themselves from the celebs since they cannot live fantasy lives which they cannot afford. People should therefore follow the set laws which are right and cannot be manipulated by the media.

From the above discussion it is clear to conclude that social media is very useful and an excellent marketing tool. Through it customers are identified, retained and other new ones are attracted. More opportunities are created and thus the goods and services reach wide range of customers. Thus social media is important and should be used by an organization if success is to be achieved and marketing is successful.

Speaking more than one language is a great advantage

Introduction

Speaking more than one language is important since it comes with a number of advantages. Children are in a position to learn the languages faster compared to adults and thus parents should ensure their children learn many languages. The number of bilingual speakers is said to be on the rise since many people are not comfortable with only one language. Many opportunities come to those bilingual speakers since they are able to communicate with quite large masses of people in an easy way. Nations are accessible to each other and thus understanding different languages will enhance integration and strengthen relationships between nations. Therefore this paper will focus on discussing two advantages of speaking more than one language and supporting the reasons with examples.

One of the major advantages of speaking more than one language is that it helps to communicate with people in different regions. Most bilingual speakers are sent abroad since they can communicate well with most of the people (Plante, 2013). Thus such people get opportunities to travel to different destinations, make friends and learn cultures of different countries. Nations are getting access to each other and thus learning most languages strengthens the relationship among different nations. Bilingual speakers therefore have many opportunities in life unlike those speakers who speak one language only. They are comfortable while abroad and can communicate easily with most people and even develop long lasting relationships with many people (Braun & Cline, 2014). Thus learning more than one language is advantageous since one remains confident and can pass across a point with much ease. Understanding more than one language makes one social where one can socialize with different people of different cultures easily.

Bilingual speakers are sharp people and able to learn and understand different languages. Thus speaking more than one language enables people remain sharp in life. It also ensures people remain focused in life since they got many opportunities and responsibilities in life (Plante, 2013). For example bilingual speakers do not get dementia problems when they grow old since they are active people. The speakers are able to understand different environments and which language to use at a given specific place and time and thus are always active and fast thinkers. Another example is that the speakers are able to visit different countries, visit different restaurants and are able to order things easily with much confidence. They are able to ask for direction when they get lost with much ease and are able to learn the culture of the people easily. The speakers are able to ask questions in case they need clarification since they understand whatever others are discussing.

The second advantage of speaking more than one language is the easiness to socialize and get more job opportunities. Bilingual speakers are able to connect easily with other people in their own countries as well as those abroad (Grosjean, 2010). It becomes easy to communicate to different people in a language they can understand best. One is also able to initiate a conversation if you learn someone understands your language. One will be interested to know more about the person understanding different languages and thus socializing takes place. As a result of this, relationships maybe formed which will last long and maybe of great help. For example one can stay connected to friends in different nations and even communicate via social media easily. Without understanding the language of the other party communication cannot take place and thus bilingual speakers are advantaged and have many friends all over the world.

Most bilingual speakers get job opportunities abroad compared to those people who only speak one language (Grosjean, 2010). Most opportunities require people who speak more than one language. International students too must learn to speak different languages so that they can communicate well with the local people. Speaking more than one language helps people remain connected to their relatives and families. Grandparents do not understand most languages and thus learning their native languages ensures that children are connected with the grandparents and can communicate well via social media inclusive of phones and emails. Without speaking the language of family members families cannot stay connected. Thus speaking more than one language not only helps in connecting friends but bringing families together and thus strengthening the bond among many families (Braun & Cline, 2014). Thus children should learn different languages so that they can learn how to communicate the native languages of friends and families so that they can visit their grandparents and communicate with them easily.

Conclusion

From the above discussion we can clearly observe that speaking more than one language is the best thing that ensures people are well connected to friends, relatives and other people in different places of work. Thus bilingual speakers are more advantaged since they are able to communicate well with people in different regions as well as families and other local people. The speakers are sharp people who remain active and thus learn cultures of different people and get job opportunities all over the world.

            Compare Different Unified Communication Platforms

A unified platform for communications is any kind of communication approach that engages a wider range of technology advancement as well as application design. Unified communication sites help individuals in sharing thoughts by providing them with technological opportunities to integrate (Putnik, & Cruz-Cunha, 2012).  There are different and numerous types of unified communication with different functionalities and features. Both small and expanded businesses can acquire numerous benefits through the adoption of unified communication sites.  However, businesses face issues in the selection process of the most suitable platform for the business.  Since there is numerous choices business should make consideration of the features and functions of the platforms before adoption.  The decision should, therefore, be based on the five primary factors which are architecture, security, usability, flexibility as well as functionality.  Skype, WebEx, instant texting seems to be the most utilized platforms (Putnik, & Cruz-Cunha, 2012).

Skype is a major unified communication tool that is very affordable. The tool is freely accessible but receiving additional features necessitates a minimum fee.  This, therefore, implies that the users are permitted to call, video chat and video call at no cost.  Skype has featured a contact list which permits the users to share information maximum (Lewis, 2013).  In addition, Skype can work in numerous devices like mobile phone, computer as well as tables. WebEx is a Cisco product that is mainly designed for organizations and not for individual usage. This, therefore, limits the usability rate of WebEx.  The tool can be accessed freely but it is characterized by customized features which make it suitable for corporation’s requirements.  It is easily accessed through the utilization of any web browser and it does not necessitate software application which is similarly to Skype.  Also, it permits the users to share things like Skype which can be done by a large teams video chatting. Skype, WebEx holds similar features as well as functions which include mobile connection, internet voicing, video conferencing, and voice mails. They also have dissimilar features like call recording, multiple displays of videos as well as persons and information integration (Lewis, 2013).

In a comparison between WebEx and Skype platforms, they share the similarity in functionality as they both enable the association between individuals and information.  On the other hand, SharePoint 2010 platform tends to be very different than WebEx and Skype (Lewis, 2013). This is because SharePoint in more focused on the capability of administering and organizing the acquired information and documents in a way that supports actual co-authoring.  For Skype and WebEx their primary objective is to offer a platform of video conferencing and well as information sharing when video chatting.  This, therefore, shows that the objective and features of both Skype and WebEx are the same.  The utilization of SharePoint in collaboration of either WebEx or Skype would work in the provision of a greater association of business teams. Despite the fact that the usability of Skype and that of WebEx is similar the pricing, flexibility and architecture features are not the same.  Therefore comparing the price and flexibility feature between them would help in developing suitable decision of the best platform (Lewis, 2013).

In a comparison between Skype platform and WebEx, WebEx is less flexible. This is because it tends to function better when an organization has well-established the utility of Microsoft yields.  However, Skype is more flexible because it works best for all companies.  In addition, the usability of Skype tends to be more because of its use ease and flexibility.  Skype holds a great physical strength in that it provides products that are tangible, unlike Microsoft which makes it easy to utilize and adopt in most businesses (Putnik, & Cruz-Cunha, 2012). Instants texting is the most flexible and cheapest UC platform that is most popular currently.  This is because mobile usability in the world is above 90% which makes the platform to be fast and effective.  However as compared to Skype it fails to offer quick and effective video conferencing as it relies on apps like Skype.  It, therefore, allows the sharing of information through calls, images as well texting. WebEx offers more usability functions as compared to other UC platforms as it provides seamless association amid video, voice as well as instant messaging in just one interface.  This is challenged by cisco but its flexibility is less influence in the current business networks. In regard to security Skype, WebEx is similar because they offer the same level of security which requires the authorization of the users in order to use the services (Putnik, & Cruz-Cunha, 2012).

Skype tends to be more cost efficient as compared to WebEx due to the preferences of most individuals and accessibility.  Skype has a well-established market and it is more preferred due to its application features development.  Skype gives three distinct arrangements with a monthly bill which ranges from $2 to$5 which does not limit the number of users thus increasing the usability.  WebEx, on the other hand, limits the number of users despite the fact that it provides three different arrangements like Skype does. SharePoint is more expensed as compared to the two and this is mainly influenced by its complex nature and the fact that it is a software product from Microsoft.  This, therefore, shows that in regard to price Skype and WebEx are almost similar. However, Skype holds more flexibility because it supports a mobility of its licensing while WebEx license is single based (Lewis, 2013).

In summary, Skype, SharePoint, and WebEx hold similar features and functionality but they differ in usability and flexibility.  Skype is more flexible than WebEx because it is well established in the market, less complex and it has increased flexibility which means that it can be adopted easily.

Subject: Culture's Impact on Communication

 Introduction

In the global village, intercultural communication is important in that through interaction, people understand each other and communication becomes effective. Intercultural communication has both opportunities and challenges and it is important to understand them in order to have an effective interaction with diverse cultures. Effective intercultural communication is achieved through understanding ‘culture specific’ which focuses on culture communication behavior. Second, communication behavior is followed by ‘culture general’ which focuses on commonalities across different cultures. Third, understanding both communication behavior and commonalities creates the intercultural interaction (Sadri, Houman & Flammia, 21). Generally, it is important to understand the intercultural communication in terms of culture specific and culture general in order to create a culture interaction.  Different cultures have different values and beliefs and understanding their way of life is important in order to overcome obstacles. Understanding each other helps to create ideas, gain knowledge and bring innovation.  In addition, understanding challenges is very important as a person can be able to take precautions when disagreement arises, acknowledge distinctions and use the appropriate communication style (Sadri, Houman & Flammia, 21).

In intercultural communication, it is important to understand the and low context culture in order to build a strong culture interaction. In low context culture, people   rely on a detailed background of cultures they meet. Language is very important as it tends to put a clear meaning where something is unclearly stated. While communicating, people use verbal messages with accurate information and the verbal words have a strong meaning. In this context, the goal is to exchange information and to create individual welfare (Chaturvedi, 43). On the other hand, high context culture focuses on physical context and communication is based on creating social relationship. This kind of communication relies on intuitive understanding using facial expression and gestures.  The communication style has a social hierarchy, focuses on behavioral norms and internal meaning is derived from the unspoken words.  The communication appears to be indirect, harmonious and understated.  Nonverbal aspects are valued and as they have greater confidence than verbal aspects (Chaturvedi, 43).

Both HC and LC play different roles in intercultural communication. People learn culture through values and shared interpretation and they are able to create interaction and manage conflict. The two context helps people to understand how different cultures views the world, how they can build relationship and manage conflict (Schnell, 15). Focusing on Edward T. Hall explanation on the contexts, he asserts that in intercultural communication, people must come across the two types of communication as many cultures use different communications styles.  They play a significant role in that they carry both verbal and nonverbal communication with a clear meaning (Schnell, 15). People are able to understand the different cultural groups in communication setting.  Identity is important in diverse cultures and when LC interacts with HC, LC context communicators are able to understand that   indirect routes, nonverbal messages and face-saving are the key features. On the other hand, when HC interacts with LC, they should know that face value, direct communication and identity are important in order to achieve the effectiveness. Having a clear understanding of each other, both contexts play a significant role in reducing conflict and fostering relationship (Schnell, 15).

In business communication, culture affects communication in various ways. Cultural factors are most valued in business as they determine the success and failure of the business in international markets. Communication is important in order to run the business smoothly through interaction and team working. Close coordination is much required in collaborative activity and this can be achieved through intense communication and strong relationship (Earley, Soon Ang & Joo-Seng Tan, 88). First, business communication is affect by culture in negotiating goal.  In business, different cultures negotiate for different purposes.  Some culture understands that negotiation is a contract done by different parties and others believe that   negotiations   are a way of creating friendship.  In addition, problem arises in high and low context culture as parties’ raises a disagreement as a result of indirect speech (Earley, Soon Ang & Joo-Seng Tan, 88).  Second, culture affects the business in regulating behavior. The different types of communicatrion developes contradicting approaches which makes it difficult to understand and regulate behavior.  For example, LC norms are based on written communication while in HC people focus on facial expression and unstated words. There are businesses where people must follow rules and instructions in order to meet their goals. Culture differences affects the business in that some employee fails to understand the communication setting and they end up making mistakes (Earley, Soon Ang & Joo-Seng Tan, 88).  The business is also affected in marketing and advertising where different cultures view   the advertising in a different way.  The delivery of messages differs in subculture segments. Some markets need clear information from word of mouth and when a marketer uses high context culture, a consumer may take the symbolic meaning in negative way.

Modern businesses can eliminate the culture barriers which affect the business operations by applying the following recommendations.

  • Both managers and employee must understand and appreciate the foreign culture. They should recognize the perception as well as evaluation   in order to create good cooperation.
  • Business members should pay attention to gestures in order to understand the various different meaning of cultures. Under the point, people should learn the language and be interested in gaining social skills (Earley, Soon Ang & Joo-Seng Tan, 88).
  • People should respect the culture by ignoring the difference. This will create positive  attitude toward culture and there will be effective management
  • People should manage the different by viewing the diversity in a positive way. Some cultures are formal and others informal. People should eliminate the gap, accept the culture as it is and learn the different values   in order to move in one direction (Earley, Soon Ang & Joo-Seng Tan, 88).

Conclusion

Due to globalization, intercultural communication is an important aspect in organization.  Both managers and leaders are required to understand the culture difference for them to enter in global marketing, conduct the business effective and enjoy the competitive advantage. Business is required to implemented strategic ways of managing the complex issues which arises from culture difference.  It is important to recognize and accept the difference by using the best ways of creating a strong bond and having an effective organization management. Note that diversity in business can bring success if there is effective communication and shared values.  Business members should understand that intercultural communication has both opportunities and challenges and people can enjoy the benefits and eliminate the challenges if only they value and respect the difference.

Introduction

The purpose of this research paper is to provide an in-depth discussion and an overview of how the language development and multicultural issues influence the lives of those affected at various stages in life. Different individuals have different cultures and languages also, therefore, a major concern to look into how each of this issue affects the individuals later in life or their current occupations.

Research articles

Ford (2015) provides a typical case where several multicultural issues are reflected such as equality and equity of chances should not be awarded on the basis of the individual's cultural backgrounds. Equal opportunities should never be a discussion especially in school related qualifications or even responsibilities. Enrolling for a gifted position in various educational centers has generally improved especially for the Black students compared to the Hispanic students (Ford, 2015). Language development has also improved due to the increased rate of scholars in the society.

Language development is largely involved for the sake of having a reputable career development in life. Language development from the pre-test to the post-test according to Beriswill et al., (2016) involves a series of technological advancements to a student’s life. For the development of a career, every individual has to undertake a particular study for the development of skills in that certain area and excel accordingly thereby increasing the chances of recruitment in any organization. For example, in designing a PowerPoint document the students are engaged in a series of tasks for practice, therefore, increasing their knowledge and also the language since there is the documentation of the activity (Beriswill et al., 2016). In the 21st Century, the process is continuous since day by day there are developments that come up requiring an enhanced language and know how.

Castellanos et al., (2016) stipulates that the language development among those with a hearing disability is higher than that of the normal children. The only difference is during a tender age where due to disturbances and delays causing a slower rate of language development, the hearing children developed their language more quickly. Canstellanos et al., (2016) examines the development of the children after a period of more than two decades where the results proved that the development in speech for both the hearing and the non-hearing children developed independently. Also, the multicultural differences also played a part in both kinds of children until the age of adolescence. The diversity in both beliefs and religion caused a difference since the hearing children changed as they grew.

Dockrell and Marshall (2015) provide a strategic ideology that will enhance the measurement of how the children are assessed both in the language and by how they communicate with others generally. The skills in communication and the language are the central point in engaging a child’s life. Dockrell and Marshall (2015) outline that the current methods used to rate a child in terms of language development are problematic. This is so because hearing capability, language dialect and its status, and language assessment techniques are included in how well the child develops the language. Testing the language development through sound assessment is essential inefficient in rating the language development. Language assessment through dynamics is more preferred due to the different cultural issues and also the cultural background.

Park (2015) describes how both the language development and the cultural background interrelate and are inseparable in nature thus affecting the learning of individuals. For example, in the development of technological advancements such as the websites, individual to an individual relationship is required so as to form an individual to the interface relationship. The relationship has highly been used to focus on the development of language capability whereas they should be focused on also the cultural differences for integration. Focusing on only one side, for example, the language development will create chances for more complicated issues such as the lack of integrating the particular cultures which might be beneficial to the person in the future through the diversity of culture.

Basit et al., (2015) outlines the factors and the influences that affect the development of speech, therefore, reducing the language development in children. For every child to start attending school and also for equal life opportunities, there has to be a certain skill that has to be on the individual. This, therefore, requires that language and speech development must be met at all times and delays in both can cause serious repercussions to the individual. For example, a study done in the United Kingdom involving children between the age of 3 years to 4 years in a maximum of 26 schools show that socio-economic issues and also ethnicity impact in the language development of children. How a child is brought up really influences the language development with those brought up in a middle-class family having a better chance than those of lower class family status (Basit et al., 2015).  Fast learning is enhanced for the children who have a simple life which does not involve everyday disagreements among the older family members which affect the emotions and also the thinking of the child even at the tender age.

Conclusion

The research on language development and multicultural issues show that how both the young children and those at the adolescent stage grow independently. Concerns about the language development should always be enhanced through the diversity of cultures since having a depending on a single culture at the height of technological advancements mostly will lead to a lack of equal opportunities in life.
